Hello fellow DDK addicts

Hello fellow DDK addicts! long time lurker on DDK (and Impact bumpers) but first proper post.

Massive admirer of the restoration threads, love nothing better than catching up with the newest posts and digging around the forum for stuff I've missed.

In September of last year I purchased my first air cooled 911, a 1980 SC, it was a bit rough around the edges but drove beautifully and was very original and unmolested. I had huge ambitions (inspired by Sladey's hotrod, the singer cars and a few others) to build my own dream car, I wanted a subtle lightweight long hood hot rod with stripped out interior. I hadn't planned much on the performance side except sorting the suspension. My car was stripped and a local guy with the metal work skills set about making the shell good. I couldn't believe how well these cars hide the rust!. Interestingly, looking at the forum every car seems to rust in more or less the same places.

But…. my other half is pregnant with our first and it doesn't feel like spending time and money on a non essential is suddenly the right thing to be doing. I have loved getting this far and gutted I can't see it through especially as all my mates loved winding me up that I wouldn't finish it

I have listed the shell on ebay and will put a listing in the for sale section on this forum. I have tons of other bits that I will list after the shell is sold, 3.0L sc engine 915 gearbox, interior, brakes, suspension as well as a host of new parts I had been stock piling including some nice carbon fibre body panels from the states that cost me a small fortune

Once I sell everything Im going to get myself a DIRT cheap 944 (sorry if thats a swear word) so I have something to fiddle with should I ever get some free time so if anyone knows of a cheap honest 944 please keep me in mind. Im sure I will continue to long after another air cooled 911 for years to come, I just hope they aren't out of my price range when the opportunity arises again!

Welcome Simon and there is nothing wrong with mentioning 944's although on here they are known to call mine the f$%king kettle

I had a 944 for over 8 years, not a bit of trouble, good MPG, really enjoyed it. Go for it Simon.

Just out of interest, why not sell the project as a whole?

Good to hear positivity re 944! Hi Graham, quite a few people have emailed/pm'd about the whole project but in truth I wouldn't know how to value it. I can see me getting a bigger chunk of my money back selling it separately, I'm in no huge rush anyway.
I wanted to sell the shell first before selling other bits incase it doesn't sell, I don't want to end up with a shell and no gearbox for example

but if the bits are the original bits esp engine and box, you have a moral obligation to sell them together?

Not seeing any moral obligation TBH...

Sorry you can't see your dream through at the moment but time will pass and you'll be able to return to it. 944s are great cars - wasn't a 944 turbo one of a nick masons favourite cars or did I dream that?

While my kids were young I turned to making penknives to satisfy the creative urge. Cheap, didn't take up much space and quite satisfying. Always loved my cars but there are times in life when other things are much more important - you're right to recognise that.

I totally agree with you Graham re keeping the bits together but need to be realistic and get as much of a return from it as I possibly can. Had a lovely chap walk round it today and he's very keen, knows his stuff too and wants the engine with it. He's gone away to do some sums (sweet talk the wife)
