Classic Trackday at Goodwood (GRRC)

Post by oldtimer »

Held on Monday 17 June , a very eclectic turnout , bit like a mini-Revival at Goodwood !

I turned up in a 'proper' classic Porsche , there were a few others , including an early ( 1965? ) 911 in blue that looked like a Tuthilled job , might be a DDK owner , never got out a picture. Several cars were too modern to be classic.

Conditions were good , car had just been CenterGravitied ( thread on DDK 911 forum) , rear tyres a bit thin , datalogger installed.
The only downside was the GoPro camera had managed to discharge its battery somehow , so instead of being able to post some action video , could only take paddock pics on phone camera. A pity because I had rediscovered the art of overtaking and the '69E was mighty on the day , even noise tested at 96db !! Maximum vectorG pulled was 0.9178 on first part of Lavant bend , maximum speed corrected by GPS was 119 at top of 4th gear , just below 7200 rev limiter , tempted to change to 5th to save the engine but hey that noise is intoxicating.
Shock of the day was an early MGTA , wire wheels and skinny race crossplies , keeping same pace as me through both St Mary's and the following Lavant bend ....no indication of braking...must have been fun

Most interesting car ? Fiat Abarth...... 8)

good turnout of classic cars! nice weather for it too but the looks of things..

blue car might have been robert barries? he's fairly local to goodwood

MG-TA may have been my dad's cousin. i spoke to him a few weeks ago and he was headed to goodwood sometime end June / begining July for a "classic track day".
He wasn't sure which car he would be taking as his MG K3 Magnette (his normal racing steed) wasn't running 100%, and he was um-ing and ah-ing whether to take his MG TA, MG A 1600, S1 E-type, the XK120 or the XK140.. Life's tough sometimes eh?!

I really should do a track day at goodwood sometime, but its such a trek from the midlands :(

Classic Trackday at Goodwood (GRRC)

Ah, it was you that I saw coming out of Haslemere at 7:45am on Monday! I was going the other way towards London in a silver BMW.

I think I also saw you again that evening in Putney High Street at about 6:15pm? Great looking car amongst all the anonymous modern rubbish! :-)

Good to see you again 'Oldtimer'. It was a good day, loads of track time. Your 911 appeared to be going well. Agreed on the cars, some really nice ones, the Zagato the stand-out, but not sure about pre-90 as the cut-off for the classics only day - it meant there was quite a speed differential with some cars.

We had a blast, even caught and passed a few cars in the 'humble 912', including a 944 and E-type. Good fun. And we didn't break it, which was nice.

The blue 911 is owned by Mark Hersee, here's a pic (from a previous Goodwood track day) lovely car...

Goodwood circuit track day diary link - hard to locate but not impossible -

http://www.goodwood.co.uk/downloads/mot ... l-2013.pdf

From this you will see that GRRC have following dates from now -

22 July , 17 Aug , 8 Oct , 19 Oct

Porsche content is of couse higher on the PCGB days , but rarely of DDK vintage - mainly GT3s

I never know who is going to be on a GRRC day , but generally the drivers are very well behaved and take care.

Well done Vic for taking your 912 out complete with passenger ballast and using it for purpose . It would be interesting to see it on track in the same session with a 356 :)

continued....

link to pdf didnt appear in full , the last bit is /downloads/motorsport/goodwood-motor-circuit-diary-17th-april-2013.pdf

.....the wonders of computers!

And I own up to going through Haslemere in the morning after a horrendous M25 delay , and sticking to the A3 for my return to London which passed through Putney High Street , complete with squealing brakes from the trackday
