Suspension & steering upgrade (coil-overs all corners)

Ok, never been happy with the steering & front suspension on my speedster. I've got adjustable ball joint front beam and IRS rear with SwayAway adjustable spring plates. So I've decided to go for a Red 9 Design Rack & pinion steering rack with twin wishbone coil-overs up front and Uni-ball coil-overs for the rear will I'm at it.

According to Red9. Tygan fitted this set up to their factory built cars, anyone on here got a Tygan speedster??? to confirm...

Thinking of booking into Centre Gravity once ive done all the mods. I here good things about them on the DDK.

Hi Rich, I see you've been busy while it's been snowing!
It's looking very smart & I'll be keen to find out how hard to fit & what difference it makes to the handling. Do you remove the torsion bars at the rear and do with out them?
On the Tygan issue you need to talk to stuj76 on here. He is from Gmund cars near York they sold tygan for then and did some of the R&R with Red 9, Chris Franklin & tygan. Centre Gravity are ment to be the daddies at setting up cars but not at all cheap!

What Chris @ C of G doesnt know about suspension and setting a car up is not worth knowing.

He also knows the red-9 design very well, i think he had a part in developing it or something like that.

Thanks for the input Nige, SVP are abit far from me a good 100 miles, were as CG are around 20 miles. Will call Chris tommorow for a quote.

Ian, rear torsion bars are removed to fit the uni-ball set up. I fitted some torsion bar covers in the body a few years ago, just aswell cos you can't get them out in one piece if body is fitted and painted. Just something to bear in mind. Really easy to fit, did both sides in a couple of hours. Just got the front to sort put now.

How's Rita going, have you broke her in yet

not really been the weather for it the last week ehh. Stuffed my 4x4 into a ditch today and put it on it's roof. It's now a right off, tell you what though, got the farmer to drag it out and flip it back onto it's boots, the dam thing started up and got us home. That's one they never tried on Top Gear. Anyone got one for sale???

Hey Rich hows your head today?? Were you rushing home to do your car? (joking aside I hope you weren't injured?) I once had a Land Rover Disco and lost it side ways in the snow, when 2t is going side ways 4 wheel drive is useless!! Though the roof bars look OK

Rita's been in the garage tucked up since Monday, though yesterday the wife wanted the Christmas deco's out of the loft in the garage so I had to move her out and just went up the road for a spin.
let me know when you get that front end on and do a test drive I'll be very interested in the difference in the handling of the car.
Hope you get a new work horse sorted out!!

How did you guess, rushing home to do the mods. Not really honest.

Yes I'm fine aswell as my brother that was with me, guess l need to stick to Gran Turismo for drifting round corners. Best of it is we were only doing around 20mph round the bend. Still better I was in the 4x4 and not my speedster, defo would be miffed off.

Started stripping out the front suspension

After a trail fit, we noticed a few clearance issues. First of we needed to take the steering rack off and then grind of the spot welds holding the?? Tube half cut which locates on the bottom framehead(circled in picture already removed).

With these taken of it can be position into place and bolted using the 2 top bolts. Leave these slack so you can slide the half tube sections previously removed back in place. They can be tack welded once it's all bolted up. Thinking about it though if it needs removing in the future, you wont be able to, so will think of a way to semi permanently get over this. Stay tuned.

Are you doing this work in your kitchen or do you have a very posh garage floor?

Is that the new front beam you are cutting to bits?
