Sebring Exhaust

I managed to fit my new Sebring style exhaust today.

It wasn't as easy as I had hoped but with some encouragement and persuasion it was finally fitted.

I had to make a few cuts in the tinware to allow a comfortable fit.

It doesn't sound too bad either.

Following my trip to the Fairmile last night (yes I know, I'll have a nose bleed for months now) I can vouch for the sound it makes - awesome.

Exhaust looks cool - where did u get it ?? what sort of price?? did you have to buy the baffle seperatly? - sorry for the grilling but I'm looking for one too

Karmann Konnection sell them and yes you do have to buy the baffle and J Tubes seperately.

Don't these exhausts loose horse power?
Friend of a friend fitted one and went to the rolling road
-3BHP from a standard system.
KK are ok at somethings but mechanics and engines don't seem to be there thing!

I've had a conversation with Andy Prill about this and there is evidence that there is a minimal power loss, but minimal. However, the uber coolness of the look and sound make up for it tenfold!

The exhaust I had on it before was a Bursch style 4 into one and the tail pipe was a cherry bomb style silencer.
The noise levels are similar with no baffle in the sebring but the Bursch did have some little holes in it.
My immiediate impression of driving with the new Sebring was that the initial low rev torque was down but only by a knats.
It does seem to feel happier revving in higher revs now, but that could just be because it has a non holey exhaust ?
It certainly seems to impress everone.....and thanks for the kind responses.
I bought it from mightyspyder who it turns out , had bought it from bootsy, so its a proper DDK pipe.
And it was a real bargain, other wise there is no way I could have afforded it.
I'm just happy I got a bit of new and clean metal on my motor....

It's a fair point.
The standard system is really ugly.

I'm not sure if I world compromise performance for looks though??

No loss of power with mine and it's been hammered ruthlessly for over four years now... made a big diff when i fitted the stainless j-tubes after the first few weeks with the stock h/exchangers strangling it

It got guttsier when i swapped the cam and went to 1720 with 912 heads but it's always fitted without any clearance problems. Don't bother with the baffle - it's crap! Screw up some wire wool and secure it with the baffle screw and some baling wire

I'm confused.

How did you check there was no lose of power with the exhaust alone?
Did you rolling road the car after the exhaust was fitted?
What was the bore of the stainless J pipe?
Don't 356' have a 'J' tube anyway with a flapper box arrangement (not heat exchangers)

Sorry to be probing but I would like fact on if the exhaust is any good on performance.

It's funny how all the serious players and racers don't use them ie:- P.R.Services,Andy Prill,Barry Curtis ETC.

As I said before, they sound and look superb and if that's what get's you off then there's no better exhaust for a 356 out there.
