Burgundy or not burgundy?

Hello one and all,

Here's my problem....my car is currently in the paint shop for a bare metal respray. I spoke to the guy this morning and the primer goes on today and he asked me do I want it the origional colour, burgundy. Now I was intent on keeping it this colour, but when I was looking for a car I spent a year looking for irish green or gulf blue to no avail.
My question is, how much does it effect the the value not being finished the origional colour. I deal in guitars and a refin can more than half the price of a vintage instrument.

I think the question is, are you going to sell it ?
If you want a keeper, do it your colour and enjoy it.....

If you know you will sell it on in a year, do it the original colour.

Or , put a fiver away every month until you can afford to respray it the original colour should you change your mind

If you are keeping the car 'stock', I like originality.

If you are modifying the car into a fire breathing monster paint it any colour

Cars tend to only change colour when they've had accident damage

So, in my experience, I'd look more suspiciously when the colour has changed - and I'd always pay a premium for an original spec car.

Also - to truly change the colour you're talking abut inside the front wings, rear wings, carpets out etc - it's a huge undertaking.

Anyway - what's wrong with 6808 Burgundy

Before I bought my car I was unsure about the colour but Burgundy is a great colour and I think it's best to keep a car orginal...

same here when I painted the first coat I though Ohooo

but as I finished and got it home I started to add the chrome work and THAT is when I realised it's one of the best period colours as it fits SO well with Chrome..

Don't get me wrong I love the colour and I went on and on about keeping it origional but I was being blinded by Irish green!

Don't paint a car the colour that you think the market will want when you sell the car. Many years ago it was red or black, 2/3 years ago it had to be silver, now it signal colours, maybe in a couple of years it will be pastel colours or even Sepia Brown. Paint it what you want, and don't worry about it affecting the value of a 2.2T, unless the car is a matching number, concours car the it really won't make to much difference.

Burgundy is a lovely, and rare colour, but its a colour that shows up any impperfections in the panels.

I'd only consider a different colour is the whole car is being repaint and I mean everything, boot, engine bay, behind the dash, door shuts, EVERYTHING.

Colour is your call, I don't think I'd have an issue buying a colour changed Porsche, provided it was done to a high standard.

Stick with a porsche colour tho - keep the trainspotters happy

The 2.2 cars are much easier to colour change as most (but not all) had black engine bays and luggage compartments.

Life's too short to worry about what you may, perhaps, lose in value in a year or two.

Paint it the colour which will give you the most pleasure - but not Gulf Blue - that's my next colour and I don't want it to get too common
