..the

gas made you pass out half way through writing the post...

Should have read ....the result was toasted gonads  ....

Part number on my kit is 1863, so it looks like it's wrong.

A couple of pictures on my installation:

Without mounting plate

Mounting plate effectively 'clamps' the advance mech - that's not right, is it?

I really appreciate the help you guys are giving me

Darren - did you take photos?

Need to resolve this - supplier is adamant that the 1863 is the correct fitment - even checked the intallation as I spoke to him today (he was working on a comparable engine at the time]. I'm equally adamant that it's wrong - 'cos it don't fit! I've emailed some photos to the guy to see if we can sort it out: no response as yet.

Tell him I said it's wrong

1863 is for a 68L & T, or 72-73 T,E,S.

I have a feeling your dizzy might have been re-curved for the RS application which might be how the confusion has started. I don't know what the product number is for the RS dizzy or what rotation it has.

Sorry I didnt get a chance to get pictures of the install, tried tonight but the battery went on the camera so i took the spare indoors and got a picture of the plate. All i can say is that my vaccum advance is orientated the same as yours, my distributor spins clockwise like yours, and the points pivot hole is in the same place as yours, and i have a 184 series dizzy. The plate you have is clearly obstructing the advance mech.

I've done some stuff to your picture which might shed some light, hope this helps.

If you really want to try a 1867 pm me your address, I can lend you my spare kit until the issue with the supplier is resolved, just to be sure.

Well, after talking to Darren last week I called Andy Prill and got them to send me one. I've been sent type 1866 for a 2.4E.

Not tried to fit it yet though.

RS distributor is Bosch part number is 0 231 169 011

'74/'75 2.7 Euro Carrera distributor is Bosch part number 0 231 184 004

All 911 distributors rotate clockwise up until the introduction of the SC model in 1978.

Is there a list somewhere of the Distributor part numbers? I took mine out last night , its 0231 169 004. Just want to make sure this is the correct one for my car. The guy at Maxted Page & Prill said that the ignition set they sent should work fine but I can't see how!

Nick, no specific distributor numbers here but everywhere else I've looked 1863 is for a 1972 2.4, could always contact Pertronix and ask them to be sure

Nick - 0231 169 004 is the correct distributor for a '72 911E.

Thanks. I'll send back the one I have.

Any tips on the wiring? Where's the best place to join to the existing wiring? Looks like the black wire goes to the existing wire to the points and the red goes to the CDI box feed from the ignition. Does this run close to the dizzy or will I have to extend the wire to reach the CDI box?
