New mamba with a 914

Post by Bewildebeest »

Greetings from a new member (but long time 914 owner) in Northamptonshire.
How sad is this - bought a '72 914 rustbucket in about 1988 with high hopes and have hardly touched it since. It's since followed me through 2 house moves and the impending 3rd move with the prospect of a decent garage have re-kindled my interest. Except that now I've got the space and some of the time, I haven't got the money. Ho hum.
I haven't given up yet.
One question - roughly how many 914s are there in the UK - any ideas ?

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

Probably around 200 cars in the UK.

Post some pics of your '14 and we'll give you lots of encouragement to get it finished!!

Whereabouts in Northhants are you???

1. See you at Gaydon.
2. Pics - I'll have to dig it out of the garage first - will to have to do that to move house anyway.
3. Rushden but soon to be Higham Ferrers.
4. The number I heard when I bought mine (1988...oh the shame) was about 150. Based on what I don't know.

 sad but true, since I've had mine I've never seen more than 13 14's in the same place and even more sad is that mine is currently one of the non-runners :(

hoping to document the engine rebuild when i eventually get around to it

welcome aboard action-briggo, as abm says, put some pictures up of your car you'll get loads of encouragement here

Great to see so many - and all immaculate. I think my biggest fear is that mine may actually be beyond redemption. I know that in theory anything is repairable and as I dont intend to sell it when/if it's sorted the massive restoration costs aren't the problem (apart from not being able to afford them). What worries me is that there may not be a single 'good' panel on it so it would be cheaper to start again with another car which is actually less likely than doing this one in the first place. At some point early next year I'll trailer it to a meet and get your considered opinions. In the meantime I'll take some pics and show them here - the fact that I haven't got any already must mean that it disappeared into my garage before digital cameras were invented !!
