What an awesome story! I've just spent the last hour (before the wife gets up) reading through the whole post and I'm as green as your car with jealousy, but also chuffed to bits for you. Its great to see what's possible in restoring these cars - lets hope lots more are rescued from the brink.

What's the latest news: Have you been out much in this awesome weather? What's it like now its run in?

Yes, I've certainly been out and about. I've left this thread dormant because I've been busy driving it.
Within the last couple of months I've done over 1,500 miles.
The car is running superbly and I'm now using all 7,000 rpm and the engine is fantastic (and sounds wonderful).
Everyone seems to love the colour and it certainly gets noticed.
I collected some parts from my local OPC recently and parked the car in a row of modern Porsche's. I wish I'd taken a picture, they were all dark grey, dark silver, dark blue and dark black. You could certainly tell the car from the seventies!

Popped by and saw Nick the other day and bless him he got the car up on the ramps, checked it over thoroughly, adjusted a few bits and pronounced it good to go. Thanks Nick.
Now the engine has got a few miles on it I'm about to do an oil change and aside from that the car's ready for Le Mans. Can't wait.
The DVLA are making a real meal of reallocating the original registration but I guess I'll have to be patient. Nearly eight weeks now of correspondence, form filling and visits to a far from local 'local office' have yielded not very much. Now they want to inspect the vehicle.
They initially gave me a date of July 7th but I didn't have the heart to tell them I was rather hoping to be blasting down the Mulsanne Straight about then.

I can't stop looking at those photos - it can't be healthy. The car looks so brand new, e.g. around the filler cap. I just can't get over it.

Mine has a leather flap under the filler flap that you pull down to stop the fuel nozzle scratching the wing where it rests on it when you're filling up. Have you thought about getting one for yours to make sure it stays looking like new?

Doesn't the thought of someone scratching the stunning paintwork stress you out?

CONGRATULATIONS for your nice 2.4S ! The car is so beautiful ! And the work to obtain its orginal composition is absolutely fabulous and seems to be of great great quality ! I did exactly the same work 2 years ago... on a ... 2.4S coupé 1972 in bloodorange color. So I can understand what you have done...

Thanks for the compliments but I feel I must compliment you too.
Your car has been an inspiration to me. The website of your restoration has been one of my most visited bookmarks.
The work done was very impressive.
Your car is the identical twin of Vic's and his car was restored to an equally high standard.

The scenery your car is pictured in looks superb. I envy you being able to drive a 2.4S in the Alps on those roads.
Maybe I need to go on a road trip.....

Oh really Ferry Man, my story was an inspiration for you ? It makes me pleasure to hear that... cool ! And after good inspiration, good result too... Actually I do the same work on a Ford Capri RS 2600 1971...

For me the early 911 is a fabulous car, first to observe and to hear, then to drive, and particulary the 2.4S ! With 34 years old, this car is absolutely impressing with high level of performance (even against current cars... ), a impressing balanced behaviour and naturaly a fantastic noise...

A 2.4S is particulary on ease on "mountain" roads. Its agility and vivacity are very good advantage on such roads with many turns sequences... and braking capacity is of a frightening effectiveness ... so 200% pleasure on such roads ! So many that I did 40'000 km in 2 years !!! And without driving in winter... except one day...

40,000 km's in 2 years! Well done, good to see you're using the car. I'm hoping to do similar mileages with mine.
I'm impressed with your appraisal of the 2.4S in English. Very good mastery of our language. I won't embarass myself by trying to reply in French.

Thank's ! It's good for me to speak english.. I learnt it at school many years ago but rarely used...

I'd like to write more about my experience and sensation with my 2.4S, but in english its more difficult than in french. And even in french that is not easy because it's difficult to put words on things we feel !

Two years ago, I wrote an article in a french magazine "Rétroviseur" about my story (restoration) and my feeling on my 2.4S driving. This year we will write another one... I've 3 friends who drive :

- 911S 2.2 1970
- 911T 2.2 1971
- 911T 2.4 1972

So with my 2.4S 1972 we want to present our feeling of each model to show common and different points... and not only technical points but feeling, behaviour, noise...

End of mai I did a 3200 km trip on montain till the sea in south of france and I took only small and turning roads...

If you want to discover and test our beautiful alps roads, you are all welcome ! Why not next year in Mai... we will organize the 3rd edition of our Oldtimer Meeting in the swiss alps... So I will be very happy if some early 911 from UK could come... This year and last year we had more than 200 vehicles... with many makes and models before 1979.

Begining July I will go to "Le Mans Classic" with my 2.4S. I heard, that two years ago it was 700 Classic Porsche on the parking (special parking for Porsche). It will be great to meet some of you !
