8 - Original K screws

Post by Loz »

I need 8 original K screws (front wing top) if anyone has some tucked in a drawer somewhere.

I'm aware you can buy new but the thread isn't the same and I've read that they can work loose.

Many thanks in advance. Image

Hi Loz,
There were different types of “K” screws depending on model year. If you are going to the trouble of finding K screws you may wish to find the right ones for your year. Which model year is your car? I believe 1973 had large K with no dots.
Kind regards

Hi Gitesh,
My car is a 70 and tbh I didn't know there were different types of K wing screws. I know there's a shorter dumpier version, but in their current state I can't see any dots on them. If you have any leads or can point me in the right direction to a possible source I'd be most grateful.

Kind regards
Loz

.

I thought I might have had some originals but they turned out to be the shorter 'pointed' ones used in various places for the engine tinware.

As far as I remember (although it's not really something that I paid much attention to) all '65-'73 models used the same length 'blunt' K-screws, although swb cars used rectangular backing washers whereas the lwb cars used round ones.

Another random piece of information relating to the front wing-mounting hardware is that the fasteners that held the underbonnet 'carpet' pop-studs in position were left in their plated finish as they were fitted after the car was painted ...

After more searching I found the fasteners below - I think I bought a full set (for both front wings) from Stoddard's ~ 20 yrs ago but only used a few so still have these:

They don't have the Kamax 'K' logo though - &, originally, the fibre washers were red I think ...

Thanks for having a look Andy. I'm going to try and hang on for originals for now. If no luck and you wish to part with them I'll get back to you.

I have found 7 large K headed screws in my old bolts stash. No dots etc in the recesses bolt head face.
5 look new, bright zinc plated( ie gold in colour)
I may have more in another box, will look tomorrow and post a pic tomorrow of the lot.

If the correct mastic calking I’d used on the wing joint I doubt the screws will shake loose.

Most of my stash is from/for 1973 911 coupe.

If this all works out would like a donation to the DDK charity at your discretion.

I've found one more, so 8 in total.
Here they are with dimensions so you can check the thread diameter etc. The thread pitch looks to be 2mm:

If these are what you need please pm your delivery details and I'll post them Royal Mail.
