Upper Bonnet Latch (Retainer)

Post by knapmann »

I need the spring retainer part from the front bonnet upper latch. I understand that I probably will have to buy a whole latch to get this component though.

Hi Ralph thanks for the offer, I had assumed that the retainer is the same on both parts but they are not, they are smaller on the engine lid so its no good to me :( I have updated the thread

part shown is off my 1973 T, and came off the steel bonnet in 1993! I fitted a glass one for hillclimbing the car, this latch has been in a nice dry box for the last 31 years...

As you can see, the plunger shaft shank is the 'fat' diameter as your picture.

I'll make the conical button for you in duralumin for a £15 donation to the DDK Charity McMillan
Can make one this coming week and post it to you.
The part will be very bright, but could be 'corroded' down I'm sure.

I would use my part as the pattern and ensure it fits on the plunger shaft before sending.

Let me know when you can. No probs if no good to you.
Graham.

Yes, can do, no hardship.
Can't get to the lathe until this Thursday, other cars taking up a LOT of time tomorrow/Weds, I had a spare hour today.

Going rate is £15 to the DDK charity and you need to pm to me a delivery address.

Will let you know via this thread of Neil's when it is ready.

Hi Graham, would you know what material the original part was made of? I've a similar latch which has been in a fire and this retainer part and the spring have completely disappeared, so I'd assumed it might have been nylon, like I've seen on a 914 rear bonnet latch.
