And the noise... marvelous
Interestingly, I dove Vic's car on Saturday afternoon as he lives on my route back to Sussex. His car is much quieter, which I can't explain as his car also has SSIs, despite reving it higher that I have Paul's car.

As James says, the fun starts around 5K. I would say you have just about run it in by now. Drive it like you stole it

BTW I love the blossom picture!

What a fantastic thread and a lovely set of wheels. I think anyone would be delighted to have that sitting in the garage.

Great car.

Thanks Bob.
Nice to get admiring glances from so far away. :)
If it would stop raining here (and I could stop driving it) I'd take some nice shots. Meanwhile, as you asked so nicely...

I've now got the leather wheel back and installed.
The smaller size helps and it feels much better.

This was a nice little treat. I hadn't shown you this before but Nick presented me with a gift upon collecting the car.
Superb. Thanks Nick.

Sorry to nit pick Paul, but seems a shame to use an incorrect decal...

the originals were only ever written in german:

You're going to think this plate looks a little scrappy.
Well don't. The earlier respray to Guards Red hadn't been done with any care and the paint code plate had been completely obliterated. I didn't take a 'before' picture but trust me it was covered in red paint and seemed unsalvageable. I'd got a modern reproduction plate that I could have used but it was just too clean and it didn't seem right to punch numbers onto it. I don't like the idea of faked tags even if it's only the paint code one.
So, I couldn't really resort to solvents without damaging the text underneath and therefore I had to carefully pick away with a scalpel and gingerly remove the layers to reveal the original numbers.
It had been important to restore the original Metallic Green so it was important to preserve the original paint code plate too.
I'm pleased to have been able to preserve it. Little things eh? :)

Andy,

Now I'm going to lie awake worrying about that! :)

I'll just have to find a German one now.
Why would anyone reproduce them in English

Paul - the best reproductions are made by Robert Gross in Canada.

You can get them via the Early 911S Registry :

Thanks Andy. I'll try (again).
I do love the Early 911S forum. Excellent place to be. Fascinating and informative.
Second best thing to DDK.
But, I've tried twice to buy stuff from them to no avail.
Fax your order, etc. Phone. No joy.
Them boys need to get techno'd up and take PayPal and online ordering. I for one would buy.

I used to get batches of these directly from Robert - if you have any problems ordering from the S Registry let me know & I'll order one for you.

I am so looking forward to seeing your car :) . I have a 380mm wheel fitted to my car & it is a huge improvement over the original 400mm :)
