More progress on the '72.
The engine is back together and the gearbox rebuilt.
Going back in this week.

The glass is now back in with new rubbers and trims.
They ain't gonna leak.

You've got to hand it to Nick, he's making a nice job of it.
No skimping on parts either. Plenty of pukka Porsche items bought for this one. I collected some goodies from AFN, plenty of Cayennes on show but I don't know what they'd make of a 1972 car. It's suprising just how much of the early stuff is still available though. All credit to them. Supporting their heritage (and making a few bob along the way).

I've gone with Michelin XWX tyres on the car. Highly regarded in it's day. They were original fitment and they remain one of the few tyres still available with the correct 70 profile and a 'V' rating.
The tread pattern is very 70's too, pretty firm compound and real chunky treads with about an inch of depth!

I recall having Michelins on some of my beetles and being unable to wear them out. Still, should be able to manage it in a Porsche..

I will be very interested to see how you get on with those tyres. I have contemplated fitting them to mine but the initial cost has put me off.

The wheels were in good shape and remarkably are probably the original set. They had been repainted black all over so they've been stripped and refurbished. All were date stamped '72 on the reverse. The Early 911 guys have restored more of these wheels than I've had junk emails so they are quite proficient by now. Take a look at the results. Like new!

I have XWX's on my car and I am very happy with them.

I bought them for their originality but they also seem to perform perfectly well. I understand they are made with modern compounds but use the original patterns. I am sure that there are modern tyres that perform better but if that the only motivation I should have bought a modern car.

Incidentally anyone notice the RHD light yellow 2.4s in PP this month for £27k apparently the seller was inundated with callers and sold it to the first viewer.
Sounds like it was a bargain.

I phoned the seller at 9 am yesterday morning, he had someone viewing it yesterday afternoon and I would have been second in line. Sadly the first viewer (a dealer) bought it so I never got to see it.

There was also a 2.4S Coupe fo £12,750 in PP, that sold to the first caller on Friday, again I was too late!
