A school friend bought one of these for £3 when he was an apprentice at BMC Abingdon. As was usual, the engine was worn out, so he managed to acquire a Formula 3 A Series engine for it from work. They were spectacularly unpleasant to drive with 27bhp, but with 85-90 beyond terrifying. It had three low gears and then a jump to top, which meant the engine came off the cam and struggled to get going again until it reached about 5,000, then it shot off. Not recommended

Fiat Prophylactic?
maverick
noun
1. an unorthodox or independent-minded person.
2. an unbranded calf or yearling.
Origin mid 19th century: from the name of Samuel A. Maverick (1803–70), a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle.

Ref A35 Estate.

Now the car can be MoT exempt which would scare me more than the engine...
Friend has a solid A35 4 door, had it re-commissioned after 30 years in a good garage. He returned it for the brakes not working, they were of course ut not like his Range rover's did...

They were frightening even in the day.
I remember borrowing a neighbour’s one, and turning into a corner near home that I knew well at the same speed, or maybe even slower than I would in my 1955 Beetle. The back started skipping horribly towards the ditch, and I was extremely lucky not to roll it into a ball.

They were dreadful and I was amazed when I read that several racing drivers started out with them. However I believe that moving the anti roll bar from the back to front transformed them.
