A school friend bought one of these for £3 when he was an apprentice at BMC Abingdon. As was usual, the engine was worn out, so he managed to acquire a Formula 3 A Series engine for it from work. They were spectacularly unpleasant to drive with 27bhp, but with 85-90 beyond terrifying. It had three low gears and then a jump to top, which meant the engine came off the cam and struggled to get going again until it reached about 5,000, then it shot off. Not recommended23e Heure wrote:

Ref A35 Estate.
Now the car can be MoT exempt which would scare me more than the engine...
Friend has a solid A35 4 door, had it re-commissioned after 30 years in a good garage. He returned it for the brakes not working, they were of course ut not like his Range rover's did...

I remember borrowing a neighbour’s one, and turning into a corner near home that I knew well at the same speed, or maybe even slower than I would in my 1955 Beetle. The back started skipping horribly towards the ditch, and I was extremely lucky not to roll it into a ball.

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
They were dreadful and I was amazed when I read that several racing drivers started out with them. However I believe that moving the anti roll bar from the back to front transformed them.jwhillracer wrote:They were frightening even in the day.911hillclimber wrote:Ref A35 Estate.
