Caliper Plating & Anodizing

I sent them back to be blasted. I then just used Gibbs on the raw Aluminium. Seem to be looking ok so far.
The Silver finish in the pics looks to dull and Grey to be zinc plating. JW. How do you know there not painted ?

The original finish is “not” anodised or painted and many platers no longer offer the correct plating due to regulations. I spent some time getting this process right to give the correct finish. I will see if I can add some pictures.

JW. How do you know there not painted ?

I took a wheel off to have a look this morning.
They don't look or feel as though they have been painted. Maybe a very light protective coating or lacquer?

Anyway, they still look reasonably good (apart from the scratches from careless wheel cleaning ) and have performed extremely well for 5 busy seasons of National hillclimbs.

if the finish is very thin.Maybe they used Cerakote.Ive used it few times,it can mistaken for paint, but it really is as thin as plating.

The pics JW have posted are a different animal. The s caliper used up to 1971 are indeed anodised. Clear anodised. Those used from 1972 are not.

I too had aluminium fronts and steel rears and they came out fine.

OK spoke to them again yesterday, they tell me they bead blast, then polish then clear lacquer the ally calipers, they dont anodize them or silver paint them.
