Re: Selling it Short!.....
Richard , the question was asked because it was advertised as needing some bodywork, hence paintwork. i am assuming the 15-20k reduction in the market value price was due to these factors, and not to allow for removing it's character.
Heaven forbid.

Selling it short? I don't think so.
Frank B in USA is selling a 69E sunroof coupe, Irish green, matching numbers, semi-resto project (metalwork done) for just $30K (£23k).
I think UK prices are too high if you ask me.

Not openly advertised. Starts from post 66 on this thread. http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums ... esto/page7
Ian, I don't see the comparison with the car in this discussion. Factor in the huge costs of engine re-builds. The US car : LHD. Sunroof, Horrible colour, and most people would rather write the cheque's, get in and drive straight away. There's always a premium for these items.
I wanted to discuss the car in this thread regarding 2.4 E values, but i guess it fell on deaf ears...

Re: Selling it Short!.....
I don’t think it is so easy pin these numbers down these days Dave.
In a changing market I think each car now sells on its individual merits and a buyers wish list more than ever.
With fewer older buyers around at this level and younger buyers preferring gt3’s and the like for similar money I think it’s harder to match a buyer with an early car whatever it’s condition. The cost of restoration or fettling has compounded the issue and values therefore can be all over the place for what are seemingly similar vehicles. Buyers are becoming more picky on all but the very rare cars so I think a car like Russ’s has sold well and quickly because of its individuality (Russ did some nice upgrades on non-matching car with interesting history) which I don’t think easily extrapolates to what a standard non matching E would command. FWIW I bought and sold my Rhd 73E (the second time) for less than Russ’s car and it was fully matching in an unusual colour combination but needing considerably more work than his but as always it takes a willing buyer and seller in every case.
As for cars in America, I think the market is weakening there more than anywhere especially for cars needing work or restoration.
Regards
Mike

Re: Selling it Short!.....
I suspect not. People wanting a standard E car will want a matching numbers one and pay for the privilege. The number of people wanting a standard car with a non matching engine then significantly drops.stretch wrote:Darren, let's assume this car needed 20k spent on it. Are we saying a fully sorted RHD 2.4 E car, non matching are worth around 80k in the current market.?
Dave
People who want a hot rod will look at the individual merits of individual cars as they all differ.
I don't think you can use this car as a benchmark against standard cars, with just a non matching engine.
IMHO

....sorry Dave I meant to reply but got side tracked!stretch wrote:.....I wanted to discuss the car in this thread regarding 2.4 E values, but i guess it fell on deaf ears...![]()
My opinion is that a basket case matching numbers E would cost in the region of £40K in the current market, non-matching maybe £10K less?
I often struggle with the value of 'drivers', cars that effectively require the same level of work but could be used for a number of years in the interim.......often these are £20K+ more than a project and although they would appeal less to me they obviosly tick the boxes of those who want to jump in and use the car instantly.
As Mike said it's hard to compare this, or any modified, car against a standard vehicle......my thoughts were that it's a very useable well sorted car that I expect has had £30K+ thrown at it in recent years, as the saying goes 'try building one for that money'......the fact that it's a 73E is irrelevant in some respects although it should command a premium over say a 3.2 base as it's a genuine early car. I think the early race history also adds to the appeal.
I guess a close comparison would be the Q-car I've just mentioned although that's a later more original car in much better condition requiring zero work.....and another £20K!
As ever the market ultimately decides and things are only worth what someone is willing to pay!
Cheers,
Darren

Re: Selling it Short!.....
210 hits it on the head again imho.
Lots of great cars out there for 60k, Porsche and others.
GT3 can appreciate too, modern performance and no rust now or later.
I think the subject car was well priced, priced to sell, and Russ got the result.
It could have been 80k and still be for sale.
Hope a flash dealer did not buy it as it will be 80k soon enough.
If you wanted a modified car, then this car has or all.
Could you built one today by just signing specialist cheques for 58k, no, but you just might if diy.
