yes I agree - mine says re-registered and built from previously used cars/parts - or something along those lines so evidence is there to prove what it was. I scanned the original log book before it got re-registered just for historic purposes in Kevs fileshambly wrote:The good news is that it sounds like you have the documentation to prove that you reregistered the car after it was converted to a speedster. Dubious manufacturers don't bother, leave the car as a VW, and technically the car is not legal to use on the public highway. Even worse are some of the importers who register the car in a friendly US state as a genuine 1957 Porsche, and reregister it based on those credentials in the uk. Based on what mccgurks say I'd stay well clear of their cars.kitchens wrote:Passed its MOT no problem last week not one advisory showed the MOT station the V5 and the last certificate, and all the old V11 forms show the same details. Also found the application form to register the car V627/1 and the old V55/5 and it describes it as a VW Speedster all the subsequent V11 have all described it as a VW Historic Sports vehicle . I take on board what has been said but the DVLA shows it as same i suppose it is the interpretation of what a historic VW looks like What is in a name Chesil. Beck .Pilgrim. Americanna. Apal .Martin Walker .Vintage speedster .

Ps Just phoned McGurks who sell the Vintage speedsters and asked the question and they said there vehicles as registered as VW
My car is typically of early Chesils and is registered as a VW Chesil Speedster on the V5
But the key thing is evidence it was correctly reregistered after conversion

Hmmm
Seems we all have something different on the V5.
B On my V5 it says 'Date of first registration' 14/07/1972
B.1 Date of first registration in the UK 01/03/2012
D.1 Make CHESIL SPEEDSTER
On the special notes it says 1. Non-Transferable Registration Mark YOD 495K
2. Kit Built/Converted - Assembled from parts all of which may not be new
3. SVA/IVA cert issued 24/01/2012 Emissions - Visual Test Only
I had no problems insuring as a classic vehicle with Hagerty's

I guess there must be some sort of loophole for imported cars then ? They dont have to do iva ? and they are exempt from paying tax as they are in the historic vehicle class !!!!!

Re: Are you really Insured
My Log book states,
B, first registration 2010
B,1, first registration in uk 2010.
Phoned Hagerty up to confirm the details and they stated if its a 2010 car thats been throught the IVA the premiums will increase. Now looking what some of you have put on here about what your log books are saying in section B it may be this thats causing the confusion as to determine whether or not it a classic or not?? All he said was he cant speak to me about other peoples policies but is concerned about this issue. He's asked if you do have a policey with them to call and go through your details.
So if you've been through the SVA/IVA can you confirm whats actually in the section B and B1 as this will help out if this is the problem and a mistake has been made on my log book or not. I will be contacting the DVLA and bring this up with them to here there outcome of the matter

Re: Are you really Insured
....I for one will just renew the policy with Hagarty when it is due and it should be the same price or close to what it was last year .My V5 clearly states in section B1 and B 28/8/1969 and as such it is a historic car and they have the photos so they are in no doubt what they are insuring .My car is tax exempt at lease that softens the blow to get some thing for nothing as the Boxster 06 is a massive £445 totaly unjustified in my opinion .Enjoy our cars while we can this is not a rehearsal especially in my case 67 today
