356A Carrera GT Gauges

Are 550 Spyder gauges the same as the ones used in 356A Carreras? Here are the 550 gauges-






Also any tips on suppliers? Fibersteel want $550 a piece for these gauges, the only other place I could find was PR Services, but they do them on exchange only.

Those are not the same as 356A Carrera gauges - they don't look much like 550 Spyder gauges either !

It's been a few years since I sat behind the gauges of my A GS (restos take a loooooong time) but they don't like like them. The pictures you've shown look more like Carrera GT / Carrera 2 / 904 to me.

Never seen any real 550 guages, I assume they used the same as an ordinary 356. Those are modern repos, with extra warning lights in the wrong place. Carrera guages were the same as standard but went up to 8000. Red line area 6-7500.
Speedyables.com sell repo guages for about £200 each with all the senders etc.
I`m using original 356 guages with modern workings. The speedos ok if you`re running 15" wheels on Beetle profile tyres. The tach needs to be changed to electric, the original was cable driven. The combi guage needs the internals from speedycables, but you need to buy the whole guage, they won`t sell components. Then change the bulbs to 12v. Interestingly they original warning lights were red for indicators, green for ol pressure.

how did you contact Fibresteel, I`ve sent them half a dozen e-mails, they`ve received three, replied to one, but nothing more!! It`s been weeks now, all I want are parts for my hardtop.

On a 550/550A Spyder the tacho was quite a bit bigger than the other two gauges.

Thanks guys, that could have been an expensive mistake! Having had a closer look I see what you mean, noob enthusiasm running amok I'm afraid
The ones from prs seem to be what I'm after http://www.prs356.com/parts_for_sale.ph ... &model=356 maybe they'll sell me a set without an exchange??

As for contacting Fibersteel I can't help mate, I just grabbbed the pics from there site, however I only hear good things about the company so maybe just crossed wires? I have contacted speedster clinic, but not about gauges if that's what your suggesting I do? A lot of the rep gauges I've seen seem to be missing the 'VDO' branding, naturally enough I suppose but I'm a real fusspot when it comes to such seemingly minor details.
I can't find 356 gauges on speedycables.com ?

here's mine, got them from a guy in switzerland. He revamps them as a side line. Shoulds still have his contact details??? Good price's to.. Sorry picture not very clear, my lense on my phone is all scratched, must stop being tight and buy a camera

The Spyder Tacho. is 115mm in Dia the other 2 are 100mm

904`s had 3 Gauges in the Combi Instrument - Fuel - Oil Temp and Oil Pressure

The Tacho is the instrument that has more variations than any other and I am currently looking at all our stock of instruments in an effort to ensure that we are covering all the bases - it is not easy

There is no definitive work that describes what cars got what Tac. and I can see holes in our own stock despite the fact that we have approx 60 Tacs in stock, in 22 variations

Speedos and Combi Instruments have fewer variations

I have not counted our stock of `Core` Speedo`s and Combi`s but I would guess about 50 of each
