Getting keys cut

Any ideas?
I need copies cut of my original 356 key. I'm in south west london, although I'm guessing it won't be a case of walking into Timpson's...

You can but it will just be a generic metal key like one for your front door. You can get them on ebay cut to a photo of your original! If you search on here the link will present itself somewhere as I posted it!

I will start looking too!

You need to phone him loads tho as he is rubbish at emails etc.

blanks are available through your local porsche dealership (just make sure you order the right ones) and most of them will get the keys cut for you too if you can leave them the original.

last time i had it one they didn't charge me for the cutting so it worked out cheaper than getting the blanks via ebay and then going to my local keycutter.

If you are feeling brave order the correct blank key from a supplier ( I know www.stoddard.com have them and maybe Uk vendors also ) and make sure you order the correct ones:

K100 series ( look at the stamped number on the original ) for 356A and 356B T5 models

K300 series for 356T6 and 356C cars.

When you have the blank mark the complete form of the original in red magic marker and place the blank alongside and clamp in the vice. The two keys should line up exactly and you can see the key form you have to cut. Look for a nice small width ( say 5mm wide ) swiss file and carefully file the vee's and flats to meet the the red marks you have made on the original.

I have produced a number of spare keys for my car this way and never scrapped a blank and they work fine.

I am so my wife tells me always looking after the pennies but there was a sense of satisfaction doing this.
If you are not so brave probably a key cutting place will do it if they have the original as well.

Yes, I got mine from KK and local key cutting place cut it. Now ask me about how you go about getting a key cut for my Discovery!! £110 for the key uncut then you have to get it coded to your car and that costs another £40 !!! So not much change out of £200!!
