My birthday being 1st Feb, Danny said there was an extra present that I would get soon – thought nothing of it and forgot all about it.
Got a mail from my brother Burma Shave inviting me up to Scotland for the weekend, saying a long drive will be a good starter for a reliable season - also a few local Porsche guys were having an informal meet March 29th (yesterday, obviously). If I fancied it.
Sunday morning came, it was truly a glorious sunny day and I followed my brother in his 964 and his friend David in a 993 to meet up with the rest of the local Fife 911 guys…we seemed to going quite a way to the meeting point. We arrived at Knockhill – what a great place to meet up I thought and scanned the car park for the traditional line of Porsches.. none…we must be early I thought.
Then Johnny picked up a helmet from inside his car and said you’ll be needing this – Danny presented me with an envelope saying….happy birthday.. you're here for a performance driving session with an instructor !!.
We weren’t meeting anyone else, it was just a ploy to get me there – they had been plotting for months – I was really touched.
It was the first time on a track for me and a safe environment for me to learn more about the car.
Whilst parked, a few guys came up for a look at the car – one chap summed it up saying "you know, you can’t beat an early 911"
Attached a great 10 seconds memory of a fab day
