so Can I assume from the pics tat you think I should go the seperate external oil filter that flows from the pump. Sorry I must not have made it clear, I meant, what is used to block of the inlet and outlet that flows to the old filter system from the top of the case?

Hang on a bit... just remembered that worked for me on an 1835 type 1 block in an old B... think my brother made the oil cooler blank off plate for my old 356 full-flow system. I'll check and get back to you as I don't recall an off the shelf blank for the 356 engine. I may be wrong of course... try:
Again I think you have confused cooler with filter. I was going to keep the factory alloy cooler which has been checked out and is good and fit a precision matters spin on filter which would mean I dont need the factory canister type filter that hangs of the fan shroud. It also means that I need to close off the lines that would run to the factory canister from the oil pressure sender junction block and the small connector on the case. I wanted to know what other people who have used the precision matters filter have used. Sorry about the confusion. Its difficult to describe the bits involved over chat room text. I should have taken some pics. I might tonight if I get time.
