What a superb event. Great roads, weather, scenery and people. Sadly Dave and I retired with a broken drive shaft flange, but then the car was given a severe pasting as part of the shakedown for next month's London to Sydney rally
This is the Healey Pass, one of the finest roads I have driven

Jim Avis on the last stage

The view from half way up Moles Gap

Hi
We recently took part in the "Irish Trial" organised by HERO (admittedly in my fathers MG, but you can't have everything!!), and can back up Nicks comments that Mole's Gap and the Healy Pass are just fantastic roads! Unfortunately low cloud stopped us getting many good views on the way up the Healy Pass... Dammit.
One of our mates had an incident with a wall near Killarney and managed to find a local rally enthusiast to nail his Healy 3000 back into some kind of roadworth condition. He was telling the story that (alledgedly) when the locals fancy a rally they block Moles Gap off from the bottom and the top with vans and just hold the event then and there!! The mind boggles...
When broadband finally arrives at home I'll post some pictures. There were 3 really nice 911's (2 * T and 1 S) and 3 356's competing, all of whom fared pretty well (didn't get shaken to bits by some of the western irish roads

Yes, I can back this up. PCGB are also blocking it off for the current tour..but with the help of the Killarney motor club.mhunte12 wrote:Hi

I've also been stuck behind a tour bus and had a scary moment over taking it when I was in my Clio 172....as for Molls Gap..try cycling down it ...never mind driving it

Am from Limerick myself (tho' live in the UK) and was all round there over Christmas and New Year in our american motorhome. With our eye firmly off the ball we ended up going over the Connor Pass (highest mountain pass in Eire) near Dingle in the camper.
How the hell we did it with overhanging cliffs often just an inch away from the top of the van I will never know, but am going back there in the car one day to do it all again as it was magic. Killarney also has a new Tescos with unquestionably the cheapest fuel in Ireland, perfect for pit stops as you run from mountain to mountain!
Sorry to have missed the Lakes, nice one Nick, car(s) looks superb. Let's start planning for next year now tho - count me in. Photos of our escapades in Eire at www.myrv.co.uk.

Thanks Sean, you have made my night! My room had a black Turbo poster on the wall but would you believe I just bought an SC Cab poster off someone else's bedroom wall on eBay?
Funnily enough I might be in Dublin soon in it, little brother lives in Parkgate Street, up near the station and I've not seen his new place yet so planning a trip over when I can get a deal on the ferries, hopefully sometime next month. Maybe we can hook up for a pint if you're around.
