Post by Del »

I was so overcome that i was about to become a Porsche owner the other night when collecting the car from Keith, i didnt take in fully everything i was being told...

So whats the link between Karmann and Porsche, specifically the 912, and how it all came about?

Its quite fascinating really.

Karmann built anumber of cars over the years for Porsche as they are coach builders. They worked with porsche for many years infact if I remember right Porsche bought Karmann

Mark - you are getting confused with Reutter bodyworks - Porsche bought the Reutter bodyworks company (as it was based next door in Stuttgart when it needed space to build 356s)

Karmann (Osnabruck) built most of the 912's although some were also built by Reutters aka Porsche Stuttgart. Easy way to tell - Karmann cars chassis no's start with 4 and Porsche built ones with a 3.
1966 912 Karmann Coupe - polo red.
1972 914/6 GT replica - 2.7 - signal orange.
1961 Standard 217 Tractor.
2003 Boxster S.
1967 Alfa Giulia Sprint GT Veloce.

I see. Thanks for the info.

Makes a little more sense what Keith was saying about me 'keeping it in the Karmann family' cos of the Ghia and Corrado.
