Mark - you are getting confused with Reutter bodyworks - Porsche bought the Reutter bodyworks company (as it was based next door in Stuttgart when it needed space to build 356s)
Karmann (Osnabruck) built most of the 912's although some were also built by Reutters aka Porsche Stuttgart. Easy way to tell - Karmann cars chassis no's start with 4 and Porsche built ones with a 3.
