67 4 speed with a few upgrades

Post by Bathtub57 »

Having recently undergone an unplanned sale of my '66 Outlaw I was itching for a replacement, anyway a drunken bid from a bar in Singapore and I have a new work in progress. I'm sure a fair few of you took a look at this on eBay and thought 'mmmm', but I am a sucker for an ugly duckling.

I went to pick the car up from Total Headturners in Epping, wow what a place. Stuffed full of Cobra replicas with a few 'real' cars thrown in for good measure. A real nice bunch of guys and make the pick up experience a real pleasure which is rarer and rarer these days.

The car was much better than I thought it was going to be. The floors are good with a correct repair patch on the drivers side. Gaps are are good and the doors, boot and bonnet all close nicely. Paint is not bad. Engine and gearbox are great, brakes and steering all good.

The interior is, well, interesting. It's actually really comfortable, and once you get over anal must be correct preferences it's a nice place to sit on a drive.

Anyway it's home now and got the thumbs up from Max today so all in all I'm a happy chap.

I'm now starting to make a (very) long list of parts to buy and jobs to do and get done.

Interesting change Mark! I hadn't seen that you had sold your other one.

I look forward to seeing what your plans are for this one.

Thanks for the comments - I'm really chuffed with the car, the wife and kids all think it's very posh after the last one! Again I wasn't planning on selling the last one but got a good offer and it's gone to a good home back up north.

Plans at this stage are....

Replace headlamp surrounds with chrome
Refit windscreen and rear screen with chrome trim rubbers
Fit side trims
Fit chrome trim pieces at base of side windows
Whilst windows are out fit correct headliner.

Fit a steel front bumper.

Wheels are nice repro deep sixes but detailed incorrectly - I have some OG deep sixes but I might go with steel.

Full interior re-trim and fit a pair of OG seats I have. This will be the last job as I thinking I might get a leather retrim.

Oh and lower to get rid of the chasm between tyre and arch!

All of this will be done on the go so a rolling improvement rather than Resto and will likely take some time.

I got the pioneer radio and electric aerial working today - I have a nice Blaupunkt Frankfurt to go in but the dash has been cut so this is a bigger job than a quick change over. Only weird thing is the radio cuts out when a light goes on - indicator or brake light, so something is amiss and needs further investigation. The ugly looking speaker pods on the back shelf are awesome in their function.

I did not mention that the car comes with full history going back to 1976 and has had only 4 owners each of whom documented all the changes, services etc etc I'm spending my evenings ploughing through all of this info.

The only thing I have found that might need deeper investigation is it's a pig to start when hot. I suspect I know what Max will suggest to fix this but I'm going to hold out for a while at least.

Strange. It's in my garage right now. I can't see an ad on eBay from the link?
If I can find it I will report to eBay.

Damn wish I could have bought for 12,500!

I hope people don't genuinely fall for these scams, but I'm sure they do. I'm still waiting for my cheque from the Nigerian Prince I inherited money from..

Anyway, hoping to go for a drive in a bit as the suns out!

Well I got out for a nice drive this afternoon and took advantage of a spare hour and got the tyres fitted on my deep sixes and got them on the car. I think they totally transform the look of the car and are a massive step in the right direction of how I want the car to look.

Reading Keith's thread I took inspiration and bought a set of Blockley 185 / 70 / 15's with inner tubes which look great if I say so myself. The wheels that came off the car are actually very good, they are brand new deep six replicas from Design 911, shame they were not detailed correctly.

They look really good and fill the arch much better, what does a set of Brockleys cost? Where did you get them fitted? I need to get a larger set of tyres for my car.
