Hopefully the DVLA are aware that its model year is 1969 (G-reg).

Yes that’s correct and sent the letter of authentication to prove the dating. Thanks

When I was an enthusiastic young motor trader in 2011 you could walk in to your local DVLA office, explain, show them the incorrect docs, get agreement and receive the new docs a few days later.

I wonder what they now do for 10 weeks. Is there some poor vit D depleted person locked in a cupboard at the DVSA behind an infinitely regenerating 10ft stack of V5s?

Local DVLA offices were wonderfully efficient. Back in 2008, I imported a Beetle from the USA, had it MOT'd on a Thursday, took the paperwork to the local office in Truro at 3.45 on the Friday afternoon, knowing it would be quiet as they closed at 4.00pm. Paperwork all checked out, was issued a UK reg number there and then and received the V5 in the post the following Tuesday. Oh how we miss those days...

Yes it seemed to have sat for weeks until approval granted to go ahead with registration?

I remember DVLA inspectors coming to my house to register my old import Lambretta’s. Following week you had V5 in post. Those days have long gone :)

Car registration wrong for year?

Post by leedurrant73 »

Don’t laugh, but…..

V5 turned up this morning, same v5 with same registration and only changed the colour from black to cream.

10 weeks burnt and no new registration. I guess the request is handed from one to another and didn’t read the letter I provided with the v5 and LOA.

I have nicely made a complaint via email explaining the situation:)

You would think a letter would have been provided with the new v5 explaining what is happening but nothing ??

.

That must be very annoying !

In the past I've found it best to only ask for one change at a time with DVLA - eg having bought a car that had a different engine fitted & a change of colour, send the V5 off noting the change of colour then wait a few weeks & send it off again notifying them of the change of engine ...

Yeah you may be right but you would think they could cope with a few changes if you provide all the necessary documentation.

Let’s see what they come back with. I checked and they have the original letter on file. 10 weeks is crazy.

I wondered if they have to issue the v5 for colour change then another v5 would be issued changing the number?

If your car have 8 number VIN number is a 68. If have less is a 67 and if have more is a 69, but the 69 or more easy is a LWB.

My car is a 69 MY but that has nothing to do with date of registration to be honest.

I got more news and not great. Quite funny actually:)

DVLA decided to just change the year on my V5 from 67 to 68. Event though is was manufactured oct 68 and registered dec 68. Making it a G. 67 is pre August 68.

Seems like they do what they want these days and don’t give a shite. They certainly didn’t read my letter. Car should be a G but I’m tired of dealing with them. Sticking to my reg. at least of have correct colour on v5 now.

And I escaped a Q plate :)

Why not just buy any correct year plate and transfer it onto your car now that it's in the system legally as far as DVLA is concerned? A G-suffix plate would be peanuts. And it can all be done online.
If it says 'non transferable' on your V5c, that would only mean you couldn't sell the allotted plate to someone else. As previously noted, you can transfer whatever date correct plate you want onto the car as long as it's MOT'd.

That’s a good idea but because I get tired with them after 11 weeks I ordered new plates.

Wish I’d have thought that as I wanted a plate with less numbers as I’m fitting an adhesive front registration and wanted it to be smaller
