+1 what Darren says re your grill and emblems leaving original, they look really nice (patina) as they are.

This is another reason why you should never ever listen to me on matters of originality.

Nick at Redtek came up trumps with a new shroud and grey tunnel as mine had been chopped at some point to remove the oil cooler apparently. When it came to fitting there was a little adjustment required but in the end the old tunnel fitted better and had a better 'look'. Would imagine the join wont affect the performance much...?

Tomorrow Im popping down to drop the interior down with Garry at Visualfx

The perforated leather is on order and looking forward to seeing if my individual colour combination will work out as planned

Tough decision but decided to replace the front bumper, wings and engine lid with new, couple of patches of rust on the bumper, bottom of wings and on an underside of the lid edge and when stripped could see a layer of sepia brown on the lid so clearly not original. Ill be advertising them shortly when I get chance to take some photos of them stripped.....

Beginning of January Barry hoping to get started. Glad Barrys waiting list is so long as it turns out, as the new panel list has been quite shocking, theres only a handful of original panels remaining on the car. With the engine and gearbox rebuild too its turning out as being quite a costly project  I can certainly see the attraction of a bit of weld and filler, my car looked pretty good on the outside having bits done over the years. Hopefully the car will be a keeper, thats the intention, but having so much money tied up in a car when you have your own business, it's on borrowed time through the hard times. I just hope the bubble doesnt burst  Same as everytone on here I guess!

Anyway, I dropped off the interior at Visualfx last week and after listening to Garrys experience and opinion we decided on full black interior. The workmanship on the seats he had in was simply staggering and truly cant wait to get them back. Front seats will be black leather, perforated in centre and and everything else 73 black vinyl. Apparently my headrests are 71 and I need a pair of "peanut" headrests so if anyone knows of a pair going for sale please let me know....

Only other main part I havent sorted is wheel refurb. Does anyone have a good recommendation???

Im hoping to drive to CLM this year in the car.....completely optimistic I know but its a deadline and if I didnt have that then I could see this going on forever

Headrests can be both types for a 1973 car .... Now if you had the RS book you'd know this ;)

I do love an optimist and wish you the best of luck.

Certainly great to have a target although I wouldn't become too fixated on this as it could lead to a lot of frustration.......my advice would be to relax and enjoy the ride. The next part of your journey is hugely rewarding; seeing rust being cut away and turned into solid shiny metal means you're on the downward slope.

Have fun :)

You're too far in now....there is no other option than to do it properly.....and if you don't, you won't have the (theoretical) level of return on the money already invested (if ever required to do so....)

That's proper wife maths there..... :-)

The way I read James' thread you can have either headrest on a 73 car? D shape or peanut? Did I miss something..?
