I was wondering if perhaps this was a better configuration?

Re: Special getting closer...
Had a close look at that lot about 4 to 6 weeks ago.
A good 2 litre outside of the Cosworth 'series' is about £10K for a nice Duratech with decent bhp/torque, or £5K with 200 bhp etc.
Competition in my class have about 320 bhp or 600 in turbo form...(Pilbeam MP43/Hart and Audi quattro short wheel base, there is a 700 bhp 4x4 Puma too)
The Hewland series all fit then of course.
The Lola was designed for the Pinto/Hewland Mk8, both slender where the 911 is exactly the opposite.
A Cosworth like the pic is v expensive and out of reach.
Perhaps ther Vauxhall Red Top is a good alternative, but still £10K for a good one, box to suit about £5K.
I'm sticking to the 911/915 for next year.
If all this fails again, then back to my 911 and move on.

Re: Special getting closer...
Getting ready for the winter re-build fun mechanically, but before the body is off into storage came up with this idea to keep the wind/wet out but also to make me feel more secure (maybe Graham knows what i mean)
Any comments, I'm nearly convinced.
Screen would be plastic.
No side windows, no rear window.

Re: Special getting closer...
Gearbox comes back this weekend with a flowing wind, the pistons and barrels are ready for this friday, just wondering if i really should change the cams..
The clutch actuation needs sorting out, the gear lever throws longer and slower after a tweek this weekend. Could be bored by Xmas. I did my go kart last year, so maybe the Lambretta later, though the gearbox in the 911 is dicky and the brakes? Well, are there any?
Thus venteddrilledslotted discs and Carbon metallic pads for next year!
I'm keen to get on with this Lola, so only testing the water with the roof.

Re: Special getting closer...
The box came back today from MB Engineering, almost delivered to my door as Mike was passing by this morning.
It's back on the engine and I've just spent 2 hours fiddling with the clutch mechnaism.
I now have 34mm lever movement and the box needs 24mm, I can just get the longer lever by the wheel so my right hand does not hit the gear knob when in 2nd when I'm snatching full opposite lock .... The actual travel of the hand is nearly 2 x that of the shorter lever, so this should slow things down in the 'heat-of-the-moment'.
I have full clutch master cylinder throw now the pedal face is 20mm higher to my foot, thus the slave moves it's very full travel and the clutch arm therefore is thrown more than the clutch needs to clear by 25%.
Surely that should do it!?
Getting pistons and barrels tomorrow, but must decorate the bedroom first before the engine come out and apart....
Here for those of you absolutly facinated by a dead Porsche 2nd gear synchro: ( )

Re: Special getting closer...
Back in the 80's in the days of the Thunder Saloons.Silhouette cars a Tiga sports racer was clothed in a custome body based on a Karmann Ghia coupe.
A second body was taken off the moulds for 'my' Lola back then for Alan Humberstone. His was pink...
Now, this might look good!
It also is the right body for when the car was raced.

Re: Special getting closer...
Hi , great to see positive progress again. I too am fiddling with clutch lever throw on a 915 box. Mine is cable actuated from a bespoke pedal box . Do you happen to know how far the lever at the gearbox must move to fully disengage the clutch ?

Re: Special getting closer...
Yep!
25mm/ 1"
This is taken from the Haynes workshop manual.
You need the 1" to ensure the clutch clears, though it is prob clear before the 1" is reached.
Graham.
