That was last week, and the time I found out about about the VIN scandal. The car was taken from the factory after been stipped down and having the gearbox rebuilt (it had the engine rebuilt of course just before Pesto360 took it to the factory for a full resoration) and ended up in Italy at a dealers there. It was subsequently purchased by a UK buyer who imported the car into the UK and its now on UK plates and is registered here. I bought the car from him ... dummy!
Yes I know .... I didn't do my due dilegence and I am now paying for this mistake big time!!

After reading through this thread several times, and having now spoken directly with the manager of the Classic Porsche Restoration facility in Germany (where Pesto360 took the car for resto), it seems that the only course of action open to me, is to 'part the car out' and sell the many valuable correct RS parts that the car has. But the car cannot be made 'legal' again, so thats the only option open to me as the owner. Obviously the car was instantly withdrawn from sale and taken down from my website. www.autolegends.co.uk

As we all now know, the body is from a 1973 911 'T', but that shell in in immaculate condition but of course, has the incorrect and illegal VIN # stamped on it. It will prove a super unit for a person who intends to use it purely for racing perhaps. The car has FIA-HTP Papers.

I am continuing to try to find out as much about the car as I can (as Pesto360 did) but the trail dissapears a few years ago - I wonder why!! In Germany, car records are thrown away if they are over 10 years old, so the guy at the restoration facility told me. They had also tried to hunt down the cars previous history without getting anywhere. If Porsche cant get to the bottom of this - I have zero chance. Yes, I am on the case with the guy I bought the car from and I shall keep all those interested in this case up to speed with developments.

Unfortunately, before I knew about the cars illegal status, I had it concourse repainted back to its orignal colur of India Red - now a fruitless and expensive task, as the original color of the 911 T shell was in fact orange. Porsche informed me that the car cannot be made legal, either as a 2.7RS or even as a T model. I am stuffed!

Thats my update for all those who wondered what happened to the 'infamous'6301316 RS. Its a sad case that such a great car has to be, eventually parted out.

Thanks guys for all your posting as without you, I would be dreaming I had a proper 2.7RS and could have got into deep trouble if I had sold it onwards to another owner down the line. Honestly is always the best policy.

Sorry but I do not accept this ...

1) The reshelling was not done by Porsche nor was the restamping of the VIN done using the correct dies/stamps - in fact nobody seems to know when or by whom the reshelling was done

2) The restamped aluminium VIN tag on the front slam panel uses incorrect 'font'

3) This car does not have the original engine fitted to '1316' by the Factory

4) This car does not have the original transmission fitted to '1316' by the Factory

5) The production number does not match that of the original (1316) car

& so on ...

SO how can this car be described as a 'genuine 2.7 RS Carrera Touring' ???

I couldn't agree more! I am absolutely dismayed this car is back for sale by Paul and listed as a 'genuine RS touring'.

I thought the only identifiable part from the original RS 1316 in this car was the transmission or am I mistaken. Did John (Pesto) say the trans was replaced by Porsche or just repaired there? A small point but I haven't been able to find the answer in the thread. Thanks.
