What do you do if you lose your one and only key?

Right then folks'

What a situation i find myself in! (feeling a combination of embarrasment, frustration and stupidity on this - all in one!)

I can't find the one and only key to my Porsche.

We have turned the house and my place of work upside down and its nowhere to be seen!

The car is at home in the garage and its unlocked so i can get in and out. But ideally, i'd love to drive it too! lol. (not to mention its blocking the other cars coming out too!)

It was the only key i had when i bought the car from Mr Seume and he hasnt got a spare.

How do i go about getting this problem rectified? Thought i'd ask here first before going barking up too many wrong trees! Thanks in advance.

Scream lots!!

there is a guy in the US that will get you a key sent out from the number on your lock! if this helps I can try and look him out but have a search on BBS912

i am presuming you have searched the car. ??

last time i lost a key i found it eventually, underneith the drivers seat. i must have dropped it as i got out of the car

also check shopping bags, all pockets: coats/jackets/jeans, back of the sofa..

its got to be there somewhere.

once found, Get a spare cut.

The car, the garage floor, under the car, the kitchen drawers, all my jackets / jeans / shirts... have looked in all sorts of strange places of the house(and found lots of other things! lol).

It doesnt help that its a tiny little key which is about the size of a window lock key and doesnt have any keyring etc on it. (Me and my minimalist-ism!)

Del: does the same key open the doors, and operate the ignition?

If so, one solution might be to remove a door handle (with lock), remove the lock barrel, and then file a blank key to get the lock tumblers to go flush.

If you're very lucky, this should then operate the ignition: get a couple of copies, check they work, and you're good to go.

If they are different keys, and if you can, I'd leave the key search for a few days. It's amazing how often things turn up, or you remember where something could be when you're relaxing or just thinking about something completely different.

If still no joy, then it might be a case of removing the ignition lock barrel (a real pain compared to a doorlock), and again getting a blank, and carefully filing it until the tumblers run flat allowing the barrel to turn when re-installed.

One thing: have you got a glovebox lock on your car, and was the same key again? Just thinking that would probably be the easiest lock barrel to get to of all ....

Be interested to see what happens with this ....

Yes it does. Both doors and ignition.

I hear you mate, and have been looking already for a week or so hoping it will turn up. Cos it doesnt look likely i thought i'd put this thread up here.

Without being in the car now, I dont remember about the glovebox lid cos i have never locked it. Will check tonight.

Yes please. sounds perfect and i really need to get the car running and moving asap cos as i say, its blocking other stuff sat there. Thanks mate.

Oh well, after a week you'd have though if it was going to, it'd have turned up by now.

I'm only thinking if the glovebox lock (if fitted) definitely shared the same lock, it would save stripping out a door. Trouble is, if you don't know for sure, you could easily spend your time carefully making up a glovebox key for a car you can't drive

Probably going to be a case of biting the bullet and either removing the ignition lock or a door one (probably driver's as it'll be worn to a similar pattern to the ignition).

I'm asuming there's no way of getting a key via any lock numbers

. Certainly with the british stuff you could, but certainly for the Gulf Blue 911 I filed up the key(s).

I don't know if they can help for Porsche, but when I got my splitty it had NO keys

. Called Custom & Commercial with the numbers from the locks and I now have two VW keys that open all the doors and turn the ignition. Quite cheap too.

They obviously have the necessary tools & reference guides to make keys from lock numbers, and with all the other stuff that crosses between VW & Porsche you never know.

And on the subject of losing things - my 16mth son had our Sky remote last week. Took me about 45 minutes to find it behind a radiator in the hall - bless him

Now this won't help BUT:

last August i lost a box containing a set of old pearl (my mother gave to me just before she died) jewellry. i litrally pulled the house appart looking for them. in the end the only conclussion we could come to was that an emergancy plumber who had visted must have knicked them.

last Friday i fished out my driving boots from the back of my wardrobe, to wear while driving the Apal home and guess what was inside

.

now i swear i must have pulled everything out of that wardrobe and looked at least 5 times.

Yes I think it is.. I remebered it was a home made looking site , looks the one to me.. I just think the back ground colour has changed.

Call him and see what he says..I am sure this is the best way he can tell you what it is he needs to make you a key..
