The 009 has around 5 degrees less advance than the 050 and it's a steeper curve (starts later and is all in sooner), they also suffer points bounce above 5000rpm in stock format. However despite what many claim they DO feature retarded number 3 timing as this is required on a VW just as it is on the...

There's a good article on the PM website that helped me make an informed decision along with a chat with Andy Prill: http://www.precisionmatters.biz/pdf/full-flow-oil-filtration.pdf It's worth studying the diagram at the bottom of the second page for a while and figuring out what happens on startup....

Quick update.....all sorted now after a trip to AJP the other week. After deciding that a replacement would be the best option since a repair was not realistic. Took the original gear and Andy kindly showed me how to fit it there and then 8) Many thanks to Andy for sorting this out and always having...

Indeed the thrust face on the Neutek is slimmer than that of an original cam (I have a Web cam 86A that was a regrind to compare), neither have a radius on the back edge though again I think this would make sense too. Neutek dont design/make the blanks though, they're from a Turkish firm called &quo...

I've not gotten very far with the engine of late due to illness but I'm holding back on calling about the camshaft due to lack of funds. Assuming the worst outcome I'll wait till I have the cash to order another if necessary. Asking a few people I've come accross in the interim though the response h...

I bought all my parts from Andy at AJP-Engineering. Next port of call was to ring and ask for his advice on the issue as soon as I'm off work on Thursday. Just thought I'd share my pain here first and see if anyone could confirm or deny the witchcraft that seems to surround welding of cast materials...

Silicone flywheel oil seals.
The red ones......where do you buy em from?
I have an elring gasket set but seems to have the black ones in, I understand they make a silicone version which is alot better.

No one has an oppinion then? Should I look into a welded repair to the thrust face or put it down to experience and start saving the cash for a replacement? Should the material break off that easilly? Could I have one that hasnt been hardened properly or is it just the lobes that are put through thi...

Neutek cam installation problem
Just tried to fit the timing gear to my neutek sx1 cam as part of an engine rebuild. Removed the gear from the old camshaft okay and came to slot it on the new cam only to find I cant locate the dowel pins. Now I expected them to be a snug fit but still expected to be able to push the gear on by han...

Yeah I'll be sorting out my bits for plating and powder coat on Wednesday. Not sure when I could get to southampton though. I was planning to use P and R Finishing in Berkhamstead for powder coat (where JZ Machtech send theirs) and possibly Baker Engineering in Watford for the plating. I suppose it ...

Cad or Zinc for plating yellow parts?
Which is best? What is stock on super90 engines? I'm finding it hard to find somewhere to do cadmium plating on my engine rebuild parts because of current health and safety legislation requiring the process to be performed in a hermetically sealed chamber (nasty stuff then!). But there is a friendly...
