356 Speedster Replica accident at Le Mans

Post by 23e Heure »

Definitely not wanting to employ shock tactics, but a mate who posts on Pistonheads sent me a link to a thread about a nasty
accident after the race:
http://www.petrolheads.co.uk/gassing/to ... 280748&h=0
Check the quote about "Apparently the injuries were sustained because the seatbelt anchors pulled out of the fibre glass bodywork
due to the speed of the impact."
That made me post the link here: anyone driving a similar car may want to look at how well reinforced their anchors are

"Traditional" replicas have a pretty substantial steel sub-frame under the GRP that the seatbelt mounts attach to.

This is Pilgrim's. Chesil's is similar.

It's a very sad story and I do hope everyone is well :( .

But there is a lot of hear say and speculation going on here.

SVA and even an MOT at the very least means the seat belt story can't happen? :? ?

The Forces born apon the anchor bolts in times of need are huge and this can only emphasise the need to make sure you do belt and braces when you add seat belts. I am about to add my harness to the 69 and I am adding in large backing plates Like what I saw on Martin's 911S ( MDR ) just to make sure.
