Upper Cylinder Treatment

Does anyone have experience with upper cylinder treatment either in the form of lead replacer or an oil additive?

I personally can't see why you should need one. If you are using a good quality oil, that should take care of friction/heat issues, and our engines can take unleaded anyway.

Why the question: have you had a product recommended or something?

Barry,

No. I was shown a 3.0 SC motor that had problems at the upper end of the combustion chamber. It was suggested that the upper cylinder lubricant would be a good addition to either the oil or the fuel.

The chap that suggested this did not sell the product. I was aware that the 911 engines are OK with unleaded.

Hi Dom,

I'm sure if you asked Porsche, the fuel supplier or the oil manufacturer, they would all say their products need no augmentation from an additive.

The additive makers may disagree though.

BTW, I thought you'd probably be aware of the 911's unleaded compatibilty, given how long you've had the car

I knew the motor needed no lead additive, however I was shown this 3.0 SC that had upper cylinder wear, and an additive may be just cheap insurance. Engine rebuilds are not cheap.

Guys,

Here is a link to BP's new 102 Octane Ultimate fuel. Not only shows cleaning the motor with some pretty aggressive stuff, but also lubricates.

Barry, point my engine builder was trying to make.
Anyone experience this fuel?
