911T tyre help

What tyres are you running on your early 911 - I need a couple of new ones for my stock 71 911T. So far I've had a quote for Mich xwx but the're £215 each! Any suggestions?

Yes - buy the XWX's

Seriously - they're wonderful - I have them on a '66S and compared to the (lack of) grip on the Avons I have on my 73RS they're superb - I'm planning on taking the Avon's off (anyone want a set of part worns!) and putting XWX's on now they're available.

You can get other brands in the size I think you need (185/70 R15) I run Fulda Y2000 and I was out last night and was surprised at the level of wet weather grip I was getting

I run Vredestein Sportrac2's, but in 195/65 15's ( thses give the same height tyre wall as the 185/70's but a bit wider). I like them a lot & I think Luke is also running them. I was recommended them by my tyre man & the German ADAC tests come out well too. My tyres have them really cheap at the moment too ( approx £39 each )

& yes 'Giugiario Design' designed them


Admittidly, if I had the money I would get some Mich xwx's


As a side note, what speed rating does a 'T' need? I need a 149mph rated tyre for my 'S' so am limited on 185/70 tyres. If you can get away with a lower speed rating I think there are some other 185/70 tyres available

you should have changed the tyres by now. I'm pretty sure they have a 'life' of 5 years. There is talk of tyre age being taken into consideration for the MOT.

Are there drawbacks to running 195/65 R15's instead of 185/70's?

I have two of each on mine at the moment! - looking to replace all 4.

no draw backs ... in fact some would argue it is a better size tyre to run as you have a huge choice of compunds & tread patterns from the various manufacturers

How do the 195's sit on stock fuchs - do they 'bulge' noticably?
