I'm just coming to the end of a complete top and bottom end rebuild, including all tin ware, the lot basically, apart from pistons which were fine but have been polished. New chain tensioners fitted (mine had had an american conversion on them so that they could be adjusted)
it's been acid dipped and zinc plated where necsesary. I went to see the builder yesterday and my engine look fantastic and I can't wait to get her back.
incidentally, he's going to give me back all the old parts and, while much is nackered to my jaded eyes there may well be salvageable parts to those who can deal with such things. I'll post on DDK when I get it all back but will be happy for anyone in DDK who need some parts to have a look through the boxes. call it Karma.

So we must assume the bores were honed and new rings fitted?
This is the main thing really...the other bits are the camshaft/follower which I assume were simply put back in original position unchanged, and the replaced shell bearings on int shatf and crank.
These latter beareings need to be treated a bit gently until they burnish nicely..this means not much throttle opening and moderate re vs for the first ten minutes or a bit more..
The cam mainly needs plenty oil...so rpm about 2000, not less, for 20 minutes..
Then drive on the road for say 200 miles, keep small throttle opeings and revs below say 3000, then drop oil and filter and begin the longer process of bedding rings..lots of on-off using full throttle..not part throttle if possible..300 miles of this with plenty of rest periods to let it cool..then its done!
Drop oil and filter fill with good qaulity oil, maybe fully synth and enjoy..
Good on you Mike on getting your motor rebuilt. It was smoking a bit when we saw you last.
Who rebuilt the engine for you mate?
You are going to love that motor. Maybe take this oppertunity to replace the gearbox oil too. Put up some pics as soon as you can buddy. Hopefully we will see you at the Ace Cafe soon.
