It's a shame we never got to see it Andy, would the sale have anything to do with this post?

Miggs - have no fear, all is not lost...

I have sold my '69 E----->R 'project' but I took most/all of the R-specific parts off the car first & converted it back to standard(ish) spec.

I have now started the process again - this time using my RS-engined '72E as the basis ! (I know Peter, I should have started with a swb model).

The car will be ready for Classic Le Mans (hopefully a few weeks earlier to allow for some shakedown testing) - here's a brief rundown of the work which has or will be done:

Strip bodywork down to bare metal (done)
Cut off sunroof panel & weld on non-sunroof panel (done)
Replace front wings with 911R grp wings (done)
Remove steel rear bumpers/no. plate panel & fit one-piece grp narrow-bodied bumper (done)
Remove steel 'S' front bumper & fit non-S bumper with trim removed/holes welded up (done)
Remove steel engine lid & replace with carbon fibre version (done)
Fit 911R 'flip-over' engine lid hinges (done)
Fit 911R grp rear lamp housings (done)
Remove rear hinged qtr windows & fit 911R louvred plastic ones (done)
Remove 'S' rocker trims & weld up holes (done)
Remove both battery boxes & plate over holes (done)
Weld in RSR strut brace (done)
Replace fuel tank with later (80L) version & convert to 'through the bonnet' centre-fill (done)
Cut hole in bonnet for centre-fill cap (done)
Convert '72-style oil filler to 911R version (done)
Install 911R-style rear cage (done)
Remove high compression 2.7RS engine/gearbox (done)

The car is almost ready for painting now & should be sprayed in the next couple of weeks.

Final (provisional) specification will be:

Silver bodywork with no decals/badges (apart from an early Porsche bonnet badge decal & a few original period window stickers *
2.8 twin-plug high compression engine on Webers c/w custom-made spun alloy trumpets/911R rain shields, amber fan shroud/heater block-offs(~255bhp)
Headers + megaphones
Deep six (front) & 7R-spec (rear) Fuchs wheels
21/28mm Weltmeister torsion bars
22mm F&R Weltmeister adjustable antiroll bars
Bilstein struts/rear shocks
Carrera 3.2 front & rear brakes
Basic LWT interior with pair Scheel bucket seats

etc...

* I would welcome opinions on the lack of decals/sidestripes/badges - as most on here know, this is my inspiration:

Darren - I am still thinking about this & will maybe do something about it towards the end of the year/beginning of '07...

Stick with the original plan, I say no decals 8) .

Sladey and Bob Tilton's cars look great in silver, but those decals must be very heavy

Amen to all that, no decals

If you get it 100% sorted for July, with some shakedown time in advance, that in itself will be impressive Andy, never mind how stunning the car will look on the parade laps. It will kick ass down there.

See you in France guys 8)

Blimey Andy you have been busy, and the spec you have lined up for it is fantastic, that is going to be one VERY special car, I can't wait to see it. i'm with everyone else as well you really don't need decals on something as good looking as that 8)

I'm with the status quo - no decals.

Can't wait to see the car, Andy.
