DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

My dad passed away recently, he owned a 356A in the Sixties and I have discovered these Porsche Workshop Manuals



The main manual is dated 1956 while the Supplement which contains the 1500 Carrera information amongst others.

In this modern digital age are these still of use?

Hi Mike, sorry to hear about your Dad. Lots of great info in those and they were the basis for the more common Elfrink / Autobooks manuals. They have been digitised but are collectible in 356 circles in book form. The red cover book is an early one, it was updated & re-printed (maybe in '57) with the spanners cover. Any pics of his 356?

Have posted it before a few years ago, suspect it’s long gone, as a few years after dad sold it in 1969, he got a phone call asking if a VW crank would fit it !

Hi Mike, sorry to hear about your dad.
Like Hugo says, the red one is the original or first version and the one with the spanners while still original is the second version. I think the red one is rarer.
For some reason I have 2 sets of the red ones, not sure why!
They are desirable for owners of As but the value greatly depends on condition as they are mainly used for show, although I do still use mine.

Nice car. Sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. Charlie of the 356 registry has made digital versions of the books available but someone from the registry will be interested in your books. Unfortunately, you need to join to sell. Maybe, try on here or eBay?

Thanks for the replies and advice folks.

The Red book is in a well used condition the Supplement Book with the Spanners cover is in a better condition. They were used back in the day, as my dad had 2 356s and also worked on a 356 Carrera engine that was here locally, but he said there was wear on the cam gears that made the cam timing too erratic.

So I suspect they are not Show quality.

I’ll probably hang on to them, unless someone feels the need for them as they are.

Mike, I have interest if you have a price. If I can afford it I'll do it.

Im active on the 356 Registry in the USA and only recently got back into the 356 world.
