Off - topic. EU duties..

Post by Tosh »

I wonder if anyone can help.

My 2000 LHD G-wagen was bought in Germany and spent most of its life registered in Spain. It moved to the UK in ~2016 and is now UK registered.
Being an LHD car, the market for it is likely not in the UK but given Brexit, “normally” a car going into the EU would be liable for tax/duty etc. Does anyone know if that’d be the case where the car has already been EU registered?

I know Irish cars sort of come back and forth but not sure if that’s a specific Ireland thing or if the same sort of rules apply but Ireland is front of mind due to being RHD.

Thanks all

As that disgusting tory harridan kept repeating, 'brexit means brexit'. It'll be liable for import duties and the local VAT, I'm afraid.

One of my cousins bought an elderly Volvo estate in South Wales for about £4.5k a couple of years ago after Brexit and took it back to Ireland.
When he went to register it over there he was presented with a bill for 15.500 Euro import duties and VAT.
Needless to say he was on the ferry a couple of days later and sold it back to the dealer for £3.5k to minimise his losses!!!!

Thanks all - obvs was hoping that wouldn't be the case but in no way surprised that it is.
Fuckingthing broke down on the autoroute yesterday (Langres svcs) and finally it was low-loadered to a garage in a tiny village where it'll be for a few weeks until they can fix it. Looks like an electrical/ignition switch issue but whaddoIknow? Fun trip home...
