So, the body has done 124k miles. The engine I swapped in has done 102k miles, had a £5k head gasket job before my ownership, and subsequently done 2k or so miles over a 10 year period in my hands with an oil change and filter every year. The engine was my Hillclimb engine, so hard use but no over revs, lots of oil changes and it’s won multiple class awards and records. My posted Boxster videos feature this engine before I had a 2.7 built. It was mapped to 213bhp with a different exhaust.
During the swap it had everything; exhaust studs, AOS, AOS pipes, plugs, plug tubes and seals, starter motor - not because it was needed, but because it was easy whilst there. I replaced the accelerator cable because it had a fray - you get the idea. Full Tiptronic gearbox service inc oil and filter. Coolant pipes as required, water pump and belts and full coolant flush.
The body is probably 8/10. I painted the bumpers and polished the rest. Never been in an accident, the light apertures are perfect and original under bonnet stickers present. Very clean under the arches and floor, I rust treated anything that was starting to show any signs of rust.
I replaced the roof with a proper mohair hood in blue which looks great. Replaced the front brake pipes, a hub and bearing, front discs and pads. Air con pipes front to back, condensers, desicator the whole shabbang. Was pumping out -5 degrees but has developed a tiny weep from a pipe I did not touch. It is a 2p o-ring (supplied) from being the only 25year old 986 with working aircon.
Windscreen has had a chip repaired but I have two other standard screen and will happily supply one. I think it was probably supplied poverty spec with fabric, and at some point this has been recovered with vinyl. If I were keeping I would probably buy some leather seats, although I did replace a seat switch at the cost of £120!!
It is a nice straight car, drives beautifully, stops straight and true, no wobbles or noises, gearbox changes perfectly. I had never driven a Tip before and it’s actually a really nice thing for what it is / does. Massive history, 3 keys. I have spent well over £2k in new parts alone and spent a year doing it, so it has done nothing for my retirement plan! But I have a new engine to fit to the race car and I need the space so it needs to find a new home.
£5k DDK price and I’ll make a donation to MacMillan if someone buys it here.
