To make a formal protest is expensive within the Motorsport UK format.
Not sure if Goodwood runs to their specs.

I thought the 'tone' was about right.


I think he's in a difficult position - the Goodwood events have become huge over time & winning races can have major knock-on effects for the engine builders/race preparation specialists in terms of attracting new customers.

'Big name' drivers create greater expectations from the spectators - & so the cycle continues ...

Quite agree, he delivered it all really well imho, it was clear and unambiguous.

I imagine the stakes are high at these venues and events, lots of Big Guys and toys, so things will 'progress' in the one direction: 'faster'.

Hope the speech will do some good.

Exactly.
Fellow class competitors will maybe feel they have a voice now, but what do they/anyone use to demonstrate a car has out of period mods, ie titanium bits, not cast steel rods for example?

If someone thinks an engine is modded beyond period you will need to strip that expensive engine to find out.
If that engine is deemed to be to period, who pays to re-assemble it? The person who protested it that is who.

Now, there is an incentive not to protest unless the facts are known.

That a car in a certain race leads by a mile at half distance could be down to the driver as much as the car.

I think he hopes to get people to follow the spirit of the event, but that I feel has long gone, you will never get back to that now, but he is right to try.

Doubt the people watching the races are bothered.

I think from the tone of the message, Goodwood already has an idea as to who the culprits are, especially after specifically mentioning the one incident, where it was ‘not the done thing’ to protest another member.

The biggest problem is people who tell lies - pretending the car they're racing is the genuine article when it (not necessarily clearly) isn't... It does the scene's credibility no good at all. How long before some major sponsors pull out preferring not to become associated with what some might consider a tainted race event? Charlie Gordon-Lennox has done the right thing in my opinion. Now let's see what effect it has.

When I was hosted at GW one of someone was not racing their MK1 GT40 in protest at other cars. Problem is that there is a very long queue of people waiting to take someone's place
