Hi here's 'the Doc'

Hello...new 912 owner here. I've just bought this 1966 polo red 3 dial 912. I've been looking for ages and a neighbour had one he imported from Norway, so eventually the planets collided. Not run for a bit but the body seems ok due to the heaps of underseal applied in Norway.

Thanks to DaveP's Kardex research, it's a matching numbers car sold new to Dr Maurice Grossman, a Californian psychiatrist in Palo Alto in May '66. Then it went to Norway in 1996 (I think when the first owner died) and hence the cool Norwegian reg. Very basic options when new (headrests, rubber bumper inserts to the rear bumpers) but seems to be pretty original except for the Fuchs, it came with steel wheels from the factory.

So plans to get it running better (pops, bangs, misfires, cuts out, dies) and get it back to as original as possible, but with seatbelts which have gone AWOL. Photos included from when it broke down on the test drive...

I'm calling it 'the Doc' as a tribute to it's first owner.

Hoping to do the interior work myself, engine work will be farmed out as I am clueless.

Welcome. Here is a tuning guide from Jack Staggs, a 616 engine master in the US.

Put some new NGK 6/7 plugs in and follow this guide and you can hopefully get it running nicely.

Thanks for all the info and the tuning guide...interesting stuff. Might be above my talent level but will read & digest.

I'm based near Cirencester so have the Cotswolds to blat around. At the moment the Doc is missing soundproofing so is a loud experience. I've attached a couple more pics, I'm thinking new carpets, bit of soundproofing, new parcel shelf (the old one has huge speakers in it) and replace missing bits like hazard light switch, air vents and sun visor which have gone missing along the way. New dash trim also needed (radio delete) and UK plates.

On that point, anyone know who makes small black & white number plates for the front? I see lots of the Tuthill cars have them but not found them online.

Welcome! I may see you on the A361 or B4425 (my favourite roads!)

As an alternative, Tippers Vintage plates https://www.tippersvintageplates.co.uk made mine up (milled aluminium, front & rear for £60 incl next day postage) and were also a pleasure to deal with (ask for Josh).
