Slight correction - both part nos should start with '911.731' ...

Re: Small flag driver’s door mirror (‘72-‘73)
Driver's side for a LHD?
I've a few spare in a box in the garage ranging in quality from "Ooh that's nice" to "Well patinaed".. I'm pretty sure there's only one "ooh nice" spare, just not sure which side it's for until I go and take a look
(It's under the category of me discovering eBay 20+ years ago and buying random stuff that I thought I might need and those boxes haven't been opened since)

Re: Small flag driver’s door mirror (‘72-‘73)
Yes, that’s right, the small flag mirror was only fitted to LHD cars (driver’s door) and no mirror on the passenger side (unless specified as an option in which case the mirrors were changed to the round Durant type). RHD cars also had Durants fitted to both sides. Then (I think, but maybe wrong) in ‘74 the flag mirror was increased in size and fitted to both doors.

Yes I think you're right in 74 they fixed the issue of mirrors that have crappy ranges of adjustment and size with slightly larger chrome flags.
I think they look a little too large on a long hood and don't really like the Durants and for me as it's a practical / safety thing I'm at peace with using a RHD flag on the other side.
I'll go and have a rummage later on and see what side it is and if it matches the spec you're looking for

Re: Small flag driver’s door mirror (‘72-‘73)
While on this subject, can anyone say whether the footprint of the small / large flags and Durant rounds have the same fittings/footprints please?
I was planning on fitting the larger 74 flags to my 73, perhaps just temporarily, because I bought the larger ones by mistake a while back - doh

Small flag driver’s door mirror (‘72-‘73)
Good question because my S is on its way from Austria at the Mk moment with a Durant on the driver’s door, but it was originally supplied with a small flag fitted (see this wonderful photo of it in the Austrian customs compound in February ’72 which Dr.K gave me) and I want to put this back on my car when it arrives in the UK, so the question of interchangeability between the two is quite important!

According to the 72/73 parts catalogue (original paper copy) they take the same base gasket 911.731.129.00

Re: Small flag driver’s door mirror (‘72-‘73)
I have just replaced my flag mirror with an original Durant. I don't think you can replace a Durant with a flag without the holes showing as the hole spacing on the Durant is much wider than the flag. I had an original large flag on the drivers side (LHD car) and a small repro flag on the passenger side. The hole spacing is the same for both the large and small flag. I now have 2 original Durant's that look much nicer.

Not sure I fully understand that if the gasket & pedestal for each (small flag / large flag / Durant), is the same?PMNorris wrote:I have just replaced my flag mirror with an original Durant.
