1972 Oel Klappe question

My car started life as a U.K. delivered RHD 1972 911 E coupe. It is an Oel Klappe and even though it’s now a steel arched 74 RS rep it still has the flap in the rear wing.
I was wondering how rare the base model car actually is? I’m not planning on restoring it back to orginal spec but was interested out of curiosity. Tbh if I do anything with it longer term it will be turning it into a 73 2.8 RSR rep, seems a shame to have a long hood masquerading as something else!

Any surviving Rhd early car is relatively rare as it managed to survive our salty roads. It also does appear a large amount of 72/73 rhd E’s became race cars too

Yes this car has been a race car since the late 70’s so hasn’t seen salty roads!

The 2.4E fitted the class structure for the 1970's PCGB race series very nicely, and was a very competitive car for overall series points.
Several cars at that time moved engine power from T to E & S and many were upgraded to 2.7 RS spec, as even back then, the originals became to valuable to continue to race, and the owners built replicas.

My 1972 S was UP-dated in Germany in 1977 to impact bumpers - I have all of the invoices and TUV papers for the job. We have competed with it since 1985, and it was a competition car when we bought it. When you consider that our previous 1969 2 litre 911S had already had rust repairs when we bought that at under 10 years old, and needed a lot of welding through our ownership, then the cars which were converted as race cars have probably had a much longer life than the average ones from that era.

There were 248 rhd 2.4E coupes built. I don’t have the split between 72 and 73 MY’s but if it’s roughly equal then your car is one of about 124.

Guesstimating again but back then probably 75% of RHD came to UK, and 70% of all Porsches ever made are still on the road so that gives you about 120 RHD 2.4E's left in the UK.

Few years back (5/8) the Oil flappy was offered at a fair premium over other models of the same year. Now not so much.A top restored model likely to be 120/150k.Design 911 had a freshly restored one, which I became very familar with, over 2 or so years when I collected parts. It was offererd at 120k iirc.Obviously, if your gonna turn it into a RS rep/hotrod etc, then the numbers dont matter,if they do.Then dont do it.Guys, please chim in If im way out of the value/numbers......

This isn't the yellow one that recently sold, is it?

Gentlemen

Can anyone kindly advise me as to the approximate remaining number of original RHD 1972 Porsche 911s that AFN imported that survives today.

Thank you in advance

You're now relaxing the "E" criteria, about one in six was an E I believe from looking at the serial numbers so the new "mathematician's guestimate" would increase from 120 to 720.

Hi Rob
I might well be under a misapprehension here however I was under the impression that in 1972 AFN only imported less than 60 variants of the RHD 911-S excluding the E and T model
In addition I seem to recall being advised that surviving S models from 1972 were between 15-16 cars that were known of
Always happy to be corrected on this subject more curiosity than anything else

There were 144 2.4S rhd coupes delivered in the UK in 72/73. Again, I don’t have the breakdown between the two years. In addition there were 46 2.4S rhd Targa’s delivered in the UK in 1973 (the only year for rhd pre-impact bumper Targa’s).
