Key expert?

Hi All,

I have a glovebox lock, the earlier one sided version but no key, does anyone know of someone who can make a key for it,

Hey Roger,

If you do have your "main" key for your car, it is actually quite straightforward to amend your glovebox lock to that key, even with very little experience. I have done it myself on the three locks, having bought my car without the glovebox lid, and not the correct door handles. It's also extremely helpful if you ever want to properly clean & maintain these

Assuming you can currently open your glovebox, once you have the tumbler out of the lock, it is exactly the same process:

Thankyou, thats really helpful, I think I will have a go at that, my doors are not the same as my ignition so it woudl be great to have them all the same, thanks. Looks like a few hours of fun

It's definitely worth finding the time to do as you get a very satisfying feeling when using one key after having previously had to use three.

good luck. And, don't buy that "rebuild kit" before having taken all apart - I say that because you actually might have all the right sizes already in your tumbler, and "only" need to reshuffle. (although most kits have new springs that could be useful to replace).

Do note that if you want to go OEM all the way: the "red" key has been designed from the factory to be the "valet key", and to ensure that that dodgy restaurant valet doesn't steal your leather gloves (or car papers ) from the glovebox, that red key can only open doors & start the car, but not open the glove box. It's achieved by the red key being shorter (one less "hump"), and having a thinner edge -> SEE picture.
Both keys will fit in all tumblers, but the glove box is secured by a notch in one (or more, can't remember) of the pins where the narrower valet key prevents the pin from opening the tumbler.
