Looking for 1970-1973 base to build a 1970's race car

Post by Grom105 »

Hi All,

This is my first time posting on here.

I am on the hunt for a base for a 1970-1973 race car project which I am looking to in the HSCC 70's series.

Due to the regs I believe the pre-impact bumper cars can do much better than the SC's as they can run much much lighter.

I am open to look at anything. Ideally I would look for an Ex-rally car or something that has already been raced/ used for track days.

Many thanks,

Hi Yoda,

Thanks very much for your reply.
Unfortunately the series I am looking to do requires the car to be as road spec and doesn't except ST, RS, RSR type cars.

To use this I would need to put the car back to its original narrow body, removed the duck tail etc.

Seems a shame to pull apart what looks like a very nice road car. If it had been a more track heavy 2.7 RS I think it would be worth considering.

Thanks

I’ve come across a few targas that have had a roof welded on. It’s not impossible. One was a 600bhp 3.3 that the owner said he built from a Targa for the extra bracing...

Welcome to DDK!

Another option might be HSCC Historic Roadsports? A 1969 911S (2.0, MFI) seems to usually win Class D? Mine did, but not with me driving...
I do know that it's a lot of fun as a road car, despite still being in FIA-compliant spec. But perhaps too similar to your '65 race car (as mentioned in your signature)?

Mine (not for sale):
PM me if you want to chat about spec. Although since you are already in the '65 world, you probably know the folks who look after mine.

Hi Inaglasshouse,

Firstly, what an excellent looking car. Love the colour.

We actually already race in the in the HRS with the 65 car. Hopefully we'll see you out there next season?

Kind regards,

Morgan

Ah.... great!

HRS is a tempting idea, but at the moment I lack the time, funds and talent. The first two should get better when my children are a little older and I'm no longer paying 3x school fees (...not long now...).
The talent issue, I fear, cannot be solved.

Tell us about it. Is it fun? Cripplingly expensive? I hear some properly scary engine build costs for the 2L cup, but that's hardcore in every sense (including the amazing driving talent) - I imagine HRS is a bit less spendy?

I will at least resolve to come and watch a round in 2021.

Good luck with the search.

Cheers, Richard.
