CL pads

after doing a bit or research, i opted for CL pads on the 911.

They are absolutely fantastic for slowing from high speed but in a low speed crawl in traffic, they squeal like a whole field of stuck pigs. I have new discs which are perfectly aligned and not wavy.

Is there anything i can do to reduce the low speed squealing other than either drive everywhere as fast as i can and brake like a lunatic or change the front pads which is where most of the noise seems to come from. If possible i owuld like to stick with the CL because of their high speed performance......

Hi Dougie, I have the same pads, and like you say they are fantastic with lots of bite and feel like a whole new braking system. Mine also squeal like a pig. MB removed the for=nt pads and applied an adheisve to the rear of the pad. This cured the seal for a short. time, but they have started up again.

I am going to try some of this stuff too see if this helps.

I've had these pads on my 73 911 for about 7 years, front and back, A callipers on the front.
A bit od squeal at low speed, good grumble when working hard.
My discs are drilled all round, and maybe that helps with the noise.
Some days are worse than others mind, no idea why.
Those backing sheets look interesting.

Doubt you will find a better performance pad, so worth persevering.

I've got them on both the Hillclimb 911 and our roadgoing 914/6. I don't notice anything on the 911, but the 914/6 squeals like mad, mostly from the back. They are superb competition pads, when I first put them on the 911, the first few runs I was braking much too early, and had to lift off the brake pedal! Our 914/6 has S calipers on the front and Eric Shea's 914/6GT calipers on the rear, and the braking is superb, plenty of bite from cold, consistent straight braking, everything that you could want - except they squeal.

I can live with that, and will probably have to!

Worth noting that the squeal is generated not from the disc to pad contact but from the pad to calliper piston contact. Its the pad backing fretting on the piston.

Textar for pottering around, bung in the CLs for serious wheelsmithing?
Sounds a hassle but only a 20 minute job.
An alpine trip or a track day should involve a bit of ceremonial preparation!

My pads are quite loose in the calipers and I get a goot clonk noise when reversing and then brakes sometimes.
I'm sure such play is not helping.
John, please let us know how those sticky pads work out.

EBC use a similar pad to kill squeal.

Run CL RC5+ pads all round on my heavily modded 3.7 986 BoxsterS

All the performance described above.

Low speed noise fixed by reinstalling the anti squeal shims - no decrease in performance that I can feel.

i have ordered the adhesive anti squeal shim set JohnM suggested above, i too will report back when they arrive all the way from Spain apparently!
