Removing inlet manifolds in situ on 356

I have another thread running regarding the cars inability to tickover but instead holds on to high revs for some time.
Having checked all other avenues the consensus seems to be a leak on the manifold or carb to manifold joint so i have bitten the bullet and started to strip.
Question. Is it possible to remove the inlet manifolds with the engine in situ?
I have got as far as all the tinware off the side except the bit that goes over the cylinder had to towards the front of the car with the hole for the spark plug lead. I cannot get it off and my knuckles are now quite raw.

Please post a picture bit I think you can get this tinware out. I've done is on my 912 but there is a nut that is hidden behind the manifolds which is very tight

I have taken out all the securing screws and i can turn the little panel through almost 90 deg so there cannot be another nut holding it. It will rise about an inch and then gets jammed.
Will try to post a picture but not always successful in the past.
