Hi,
I'm looking for some suggestions as to the best option for the mounting bracket on the exhaust box on my 914/6 conversion. I am using a 911 exhaust box and factory heat exchangers. I have a 911 exhaust box mounting bracket and a 914 exhaust box bracket, both which would need to be modified. I am unsure which option would be best? Original 914/6's had a similar mount to the 914 which picks up on the exhaust box mounting flanges at either side but the 911 used the much narrower mounting bracket which straps around the middle of the box. Any suggestions which would be the best option? or why they were made so different?
I am tempted to modify the 914 bracket I have to work with the setup as the heat exchangers are much longer than on the 911 and it may provide more support for these, but the exhaust box is quite a lot heavier than the original 914 box, so I am not sure.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Jonathan.

I don't think there's a best option really Jonathan, if you're building a conversion it's probably a matter of choice. I've seen both have been used extensively and I've never heard of any reason to use a specific mount. I'll be using my 73 2.0L exhaust hanger on my conversion as that's what I have and I know it works.

I used a 73 2.0 hanger on my car too - one of the few straight forward parts of a 6 cylinder conversion...

Re: 914/6 Exhaust box hanger
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments, I'll go with the 914 mount that I have then, at least it sounds to be tried and tested and it will look more original to a 914/6 one of the few bits on the car that does!! All I have to do now is repair the ends where it meets the flange, it looks at the moment like it has been chewed by a dog!! That will be 1 more step closer to having it running.
Thanks Jonathan.
