Rear support tube

OK. It should be obvious but it's gloomy under the covers at the moment and I can't see.................

Large cross tube (about 120mm) which supports the rear swinging arms on the '72 911. If possible, I would like to remove it for blasting and powder coating but the 'impression' I get is that it's non removable?

Looks like a sod of a job to get decent paint coverage without removal but lots of you must have faced the same problem.

Somebody make my day.......................

Hi Bob,

That is the torsion bar tube. They are welded in and a pain to remove, but it can be done. If it was me I would leave it if it is not broke.

On my car I am going to get all that area grit blasted which will clean it up nicely.

If you are going to grit blast you need to get the original Porsche stone chip off first. It is "rubbery" and absorbs the force of the grit. Ask me how I know.....
