So here is my 914...being an eBay addict I've seen some Fuch 14 inch 5 stud alloys...so my questions to the community:

1...having found and re-furbished the correct 4 stud alloys, is moving to the 911 wheels wrong?
2...as you can see, the car has been fast road prepared including a small drop in height - the reason I like the 911 wheels is that I think they fill the spaces better - again, am I wrong?
3...what is the easiest way of moving from 4 to 5 stud?

Personally I'd stay with what you have there and fritter the money away elsewhere!

Thanks Thomas and Andy - wheels on eBay are only 1000 so was very tempted. Does anybody know if the 14 inch are correct anyway or should they be 15?

One of the original options on the 914/6 models was the fitment of 14in Fuchs wheels.

I think that there's a very limited range of suitable tyres in 14in sizes though ...

My 912e handled wobbled like a jelly on 14s, I always thought they 14s were a "comfort" fitment for the US market. As Andy has suggested tyre choice is a abit shonky as you're not far off fitting van tyres to get the right profile.

Stick with your 15s or wait until you find some 15 Fuchs.

I sold my set of 14s for about £300 (about 18 years ago!), went on someones slammed camper with stretched skinny tyres for extra lowering points.

I had similar thoughts but ultimately it was a whole load of hassle and stuck with my Empi's which look ok on a 914.

The Comfort aspect of the 14" alloys was in the taller side walls of the tires. The total diameter of the wheels were essentially the same for the 14" rim and 15" rim. The taller side wall allowed more flex, and thus acted as a spring. So the end result is a softer ride. This is opposite of a sporting ride. Of course you could use lower profile tires in which case your engine RPM would increase for the same speed; this puts you higher in the power band for a bit more response, but your fuel consumption increases.
To convert to 5 bolt suspension the normal route is to install a complete 911 or 914/6 front suspension with brakes, and either use 914/6 rear suspension (at least stub axle, hub & rotor) or machine the 914/4 hub (& add studs) and rotor. The machine hub is generally weaker than the 911 hub unless you find the very rare hub with both 4 & 5 stud bosses or you do some welding; you may still have balance issues. Conversions do widen the choice of brakes and wheels, but are not cheap.

Thanks for all your feedback and positive comments...I think I will leave her as is for now. Love the empi wheels too!

Given I’ve just put her on new suspension and pirated the engine, a softer ride would be going backwards.
